wax question

   / wax question #11
John Deere plastic does not like automotive wax with a cleaner. It will scratch the plastic and look worse than before you started. Pledge furniture wax works great. The scratches are there, metal or plastic they are not coming out. With metal you can sand down and paint. Removing scratches in plastic is more involved. I would stay away from John Deere Plastic with automotive waxes with a cleaner or car compounds, white red or any other color of automotive paint compounds.

im on my 3rd deere and im pretty **** about cleaniness. I have never seen the issues you describe using automtive polish and wax. Do you have a link with some sort of evidence to this to back up the claims? Have you studied the long term effects of using furniture polish on john deere plastic to stand by that product????

I use Zanio products on my John Deeres, Corvette and Ferrari. Okay, the Ferrari is still a dream. Zaino makes great products.

I currently own and use furniture polish on more than three John Deeres with plastic. The first JD product I purchased with plastic on it I used a automotive wax/cleaner that said on the can, "Made for Clearcoat Finishes". I damaged, scratched the plastic. Made me mad at myself for not doing a hidden test spot test before doing the whole unit, and wiping off the wax residue and seeing the scratches. All the JD equipment I use furniture wax on are garaged when not in use. I do not know what protection level the furniture wax would provide if the untis sat ouside in the hot sun and subjected to the UV rays of the sun. I also do not know what protection it would provide from air and rain pollution. I LIKE THE JOHN DEERE PLASTIC on the units I have. I have found it more foregiving than metal to small bumps and It does not rust.

I personally will only tell someone what wax, oil and hydraulic fluid I use and explain why I made my choice. I feel anyone who purchased equipment should also use whatever wax, oil and hydraulic fluid they want to. They purchased the equipment, paid for it and will have to pay for repairs. I am also not color loyal. I feel all tractor manufactures make good equipment so when I get ready to make a purchase I purchase where and the color I feel that gives me the most bang for my money.

Gator, We use the furniture polish on our Harley's too. Pledge seems to work best, seems to be the same stuff as Honda spray polish.
