Hey there El Dangeroso have you made any decisions yet? Bumping your thread along!
:stirthepot:Fred
I was going to spare you guys this part. Fred, but since you asked, and I'm sure your going to leave be dangling here.
Josh at Ahearn Equipment is willing to work with me whatever I want to do with the backhoes. So it's just up to me what I want to do.
18 months after the sale, even though he knows I'm not buying another tractor any time soon. He will still sit down with me and make sure I'm happy. That is the type of guy he is. That is the type of service I get at Ahearn Equipment.
It's a great place to buy a tractor, the lot is full of new Kubota's. You don't have to look at pictures of machines on line and then order them without a test drive. Plus, you get to deal with the owner.(that is if Pete is busy) just kidding.
My choices now are, get rid of the larger slightly used BH92 backhoe with the hydraulic thumb and basically exchange it for a smaller new in crate B77 backhoe with the mechanical thumb. I would convert the mechanical thumb to hydraulic as one of my first backhoe mods.
So before everyone thinks I'm crazier that you thought before. This is my reasoning.
Since I don't use the backhoe that much anymore and have no future plans at this time other then to be able to dig up and plant trees, bushes etc. I was thinking the smaller backhoe would stay on the tractor most of the time and be used as a ballast which is also nice because you can go from front bucket work to backhoe instantly. Plus when I don't want it on the tractor it will be much easier to store in my garage.
Another thing that my father in law suggested (retired operator) When working on a hill in a scary spot put the outriggers down about a foot off the ground just as a precaution if the tractor just started to tip the low to the ground outrigger would stop it from tipping over. I have done that with my
b3030 many times before, if nothing else a little piece of mind.
Or I can just keep the larger BH 92 as shown in the video below. Otherwise outside under a tarp getting rusty and not on the tractor ready for use. I'm 58, if I keep this tractor it will be for the rest of my life. So what seems a better fit for me to deal with for the next 20 years or so.
To me just sitting out under a tarp is a waste, end up not using it for the little 5 minute jobs because getting it uncovered hooking it up to the tractor then re covering it.
You end up saying naa I'll use my bucket.. Leaving it on the tractor makes more sense to me.
But I can also leave the bigger one on the tractor too. So what do I do?
Same as the tires If I'm going to do something, Now is the time to do it. Otherwise just live with it.
So this Video shows pretty much the extent of my backhoe needs right now.
After crushing the brush pile with the thumb, I then proceed to open and deliver the can of seltzer to the camera man.
If only I was smart enough at the time not to do it wide open throttle,(2700 Rpm) it probably would have been nice, smooth and easy.
Now another reason, I figure with the new smaller backhoe and the tractor idling, I could get good enough to do this fast, precise and without crushing the can. The smaller backhoe would also let me be closer to the can.
Then once i'm good at it, I could join the Carnival and go from town to town opening beer for the Yak woman. I believe between doing good with this backhoe opening cans and continue to make fake tape recorder Zippo lighters, I can go places.
