Weed Killer?

Yes, perhaps a little more detail as to what you want to kill, and why? Do you want to kill an area to plant a garden (ground sterilization like pramitol or barrier are not a good idea).

And where you live would be a vital piece of info too.

Just how much do you want to spend?

My personal experience, spray cheap and spray often. I have tried many of the products that claim to prevent growth for a year. They just DONT WORK. These ground sterilizer's I have tried in my shop driveway, and in the driveway and patio areas of my apartments. They show quicker results than roundup....sure. But dont seem to ever last any longer than roundup alone, And I find myself still having to re-spray once every month or 6-weeks.

Pramitol costs $60 per gallon or $100 for 2.5 gallons. And you are supposed to spray it at a rate of ~5 gallons per acre. so its not real concentrated stuff. $200 per acre is pricy

The barrier stuff is $40 per gallon....and a gallon only does 7200 sq ft. So about 6 gallons per acre.....which makes it $240 per acre for the stuff.

Sure, if you only needed to mix a backpak sprayer and do a fence line or driveway it you wont need several gallons of the stuff, but again, I find it to work no better than roundup/24d mix.

I buy buccaneer 50% glyphosate for ~$50 per 2.5 gallons
I buy nufarm weedmaster 24d for about the same $50 per 2.5 gallons.

I mix 2 oz per gallon of each for hand spray, or one quart of each for per acre of tank sprayer. That puts me spending $10 per acre using BOTH 24d and roundup. A WHOLE lot cheaper and just as effective as anything else I have found.

IIRC "chlorine" is a gas. Could somebody be more specific....e.g. Clorox.....sodium hypochlorite???
yeah, Clorox=sodium hypochlorite which gives off Chlorine.. Pool Shock is stronger, and what I use.. the Chlorine dissipates quickly in the soil.. ever drain a swimming pool?. same thing but with a weaker concentration..

Please do not use chlorine as a weed killer. That is not what it is intended for. Neither is diesel or kerosene.

There are things that are much more effective and safer and LEGAL to use as weed killers.

Pouring boiling water on grass and weeds also works, very environmentally friendly too, but certainly is not cost effective.

I suggested kerosene merely because it's no worse of an alternative than what the OP is asking for. In hindsight I should have suggested asphalt. I'm not big on chemicals, they are just one tool in the toolbox and need to be used responsibly. Given the context of his question, I hope that he hires a professional.

Can't say it any better than this.

that's why I suggested sodium hypochlorite, many thousands of people have used that as a weed killer, and is much safer than Chlorine, which is a gas..

Salt will work, but will wash away if you're in an area with a lot of precipitation.

I am looking at salt to take care of weeds along fences and a few other places. It was my impression that once it was allowed to soak in - with rain or watering - that the soil there would be barren for a very long time. I don't know if that is the case yet but am trying salt out for a few locations. Here is an article I looked at a while back when I was considering trying salt.

pelleted salt, used in a water softener will last longest. the smaller you get in size, the shorter the time to dissolve, and wash away..
