That camping trip sound like a great time!! We have a seasonal place up on Spirit Lake in the Idaho panhandle that has 40 RV sites with power/water and some with sewer hookups. Its kind of a similar scene where people start campfires in their sites and wander from site to site as the night goes on and the booze starts to flow.... :laughing:

I agree with you Lance about the manual tranny. I was headed out to our super Dodge dealer in Kellogg Idaho to find a long bed Ram 2500/3500 when my wife found my 2005 Silverado with the Allison. I ended up with the LLY Duramax and it has performed well for the last year I have owned it. It has an AFE stage 2 intake/filter and I am going to put a 4" turbo back MBRP exhaust on soon with a Max Energy tuner. Nothing too wild, just set on a tow/haul mode to see if I can get over 20mpg with a 7300lb truck....:thumbsup:

For what its worth- you could try "brushgrubber" tools sold at Bailey's outdoor. They are a varied size jaw type item that attaches to a chain or winch and the jaws have spikes to allow grabbing saplings by the roots up to 5" in diameter. You apply pulling force with your tractor and rip out the entire tree, roots and all, so NO STUMPS! I bought the small and large ones allowing me to get the most variety of saplings out of my woods/fields etc.
I often cut bigger saplings to about a three foot stalk and then grab on higher up and pull out the roots and stalk all at once after I've cleared an area to give the tractor access.
I also use one saw, which is my stump saw, for the bigger trees so I can dig around the base at close to or below the landscape grade and cut the stump as close as possible- and yes sometimes I hit dirt or rocks in the process but the saw and chain are used for this task.

I have no problem chaining off to brush that I want to try and pull out. That's slow work. I'm more of a brush hog clearer and then go back and get the bigger stuff with a chainsaw. Once cut down, the piles of slash need to be moved which is where a grapple makes its money.

(Not the durajunk and the only good thing Chevroletchadown has...the Allison tranny).

My Durajunk has given me 17.0 mpg average over 130K miles, always loaded, with racks on top. So quiet some don't believe it's a deisel. Torsion bar suspension up front, 2200# payload in a 2500 series, so it doesn't squat down like a girl when you load it up, like the dodges and fords do..

A mix really. I always try to push over a tree whole and I sometimes accomplish this. More often I cut the stump low enough to mow over it and let it rot. These stumps are hardwoods so they rot out much faster than the evergreen stumps. Still a few years before I can go back and rip them out with the scarifier tooth on the box blade. Sometimes I test for rottenness with the mower and then the stump turns to dust.

Right with you on this one!!! My '02 2500 D/A has been a work horse for almost all of it 170K miles so far. Biggest issue was a cracked trans cooler but I am sure that had to do with the deer head that went through the grill
