How much do chains weigh? I've got 16.9-30 tires. Give or take 10lbs.

It would depend on which style chains you need.
As an example, my Deere 4400 has 41x14x20 turf tires. I have 4 link ladder style chains. Each chain is about 70 lbs (+/- a few lbs).

I've never weighed mine, but I'm pretty sure they're not as heavy as Roy's. I'd guess 50 lbs per rear tire chain (on R4s).

Depends on how large a link, size of tire, type of chain layout.

I just welded a "U" shaped set of horns on my 3ph "T" bar to hang a single skidder chain from for a quick and simple ballast. That one tires' worth of chain weighs 550lbs.

It does depend a lot on the chain. I have 28" tires and chains made from 3/8" links with ice studs on each link. I can't hardly pick up an entire chain all at once, which makes mounting them a bit of a wrestling match. I love the bite and ballast they have though. If I were doing it over, I might look for a lighter chain just for the ease of mounting.

Mounting a tire chain is like trying to stick 80 pounds of warm Jello to a wall.

Ain't it the truth.

I use the method of jacking up the rear of the tractor, put a piece of scrap light chain through the wheel and use the tire leverage to pull the chain around onto the tire. Then lock the brakes and get the chain ends linked together. It's a lot of pulling and tugging for sure. Once they are on, they stay on until the snow is gone.

My set of chains weighed 240 lbs a pair to fit my 49.9x24 tires. They are 3/8" links. I never pick the whole chain up though. I just lay them out on the ground behind the tire. Jack the tire off the ground, place one end on the tire then turn the tire by hand and the chain just wraps around the tire. It's just a matter of connecting the ends.

I have 2-link ladders (3/8") for 41x14x20 turf tires. They weigh 80 pounds each. My 2-link V-bars on the front (27x8.5x15) weigh 32 pounds for both.

My ladder style for 14.9-24's probably weigh 200 each.

I wrestle with them as little as possible to install them. I lay them out on the ground, drive over them and then pull the ends up on the tire and hook 'em up. I usually have to snug them up after a little bit of use...

I went to the source. Tirechains.com
I asked the weight of 16.9-30 Duo-Grip V-Bar and was told they weigh 186lbs for the pair. Or 93 lbs each.
