Kind of related. I bought a welding blanket. Good to have, if you need to protect something when welding. Beats the various old bed sheets I use to keep dust off stuff in the shop.

Welding and or Fire balnkets are priceless. Keeps the sparks off the flamables too.

In cold windy weather,putting one over the smoker help's maintain heat.

Now, for summer welding work, I keep a denim shirt in the shop,, (the shirt is short sleeved)
and I use that shirt with these sleeves,,

I can take off the sleeves, and do other non-welding work.

When I use to ware those sleeves I had trouble keeping them to stay up so I bought these, clip one end on the sleeves the other on my T-shirt>>> Unisex Elastic Glove and Mitten Clips with Snowman Design Clip - 18 Colors | eBay

I use a leather vest. I've thought about sleeves but most of my welding is table work. Pretty easy to position myself or the project to avoid splatter.
I learned early on to wear work shoes. Burned a hole in my sneaker through my sock and left a nice BB size blister on my foot.
I think that was the first day with my new welder.

I have been wearing the Wrangler denim shirts for a long time. They burn up over time but they are comfortable and wear well for the past 50 yrs.

Something I discovered about the those bright green welding jackets, is they reflect a lot of light into back side of hood and is very annoying,... I was able to return the green one to retailer (not dirty after only 10 minutes of use) and get a black jacket..... Problem is subtle but it's there, and it is annoying (distracting) ... My thought on bright green is it advertises "look at me, I'm a welder".... But is really not cool when actually welding....

You results may vary with green jacket, but it is not for me...

I been using this Black Stallion welding shirt for a month now, but only welding flat fillets, miles and miles of flat fillets. I haven't notice any reflection but then I'm using a 3M ADD-FLOW welding hood. I use to ware the green shirt but I cant stand that Chinese green color, this blue one is nice with plenty off inside pockets, 2 pencil pocket on sleeves and is true to size.

So now you just have to wear XXL instead of S, just keep saying your only as old as you feel they say that works wonders..........

Last year I was telling a lead-man half my age that it's harder now for me to climb around the deck plates with welding gear, his response was "a welder is a welder age has nothing to do with it", I gave him a talk to the hand sign and waled away. I think he went to jerk training school after he put the white hat on, bout a month later he got fired for soap-opera offenses. Nowadays theres very very few at my age still welding, I'm surrounded by kids and with that blue shirt I stick out, everyone else is wearing chinese green........

Has anyone tried spray on starch on a shirt like Mark@Everlast says? first I heard of that redneck idea..... While this thread is still live I thought this a neat trick for keeping things square on an uneven floor like what I have, a 3 point contact jig.
