Welding razor blades together, with a MIG

I've never seen anyone weld razor blades together before but I have seen the welder at work win a $10 lunch bet for running a tig bead down the cutting edge of a razor blade. He did it on the 1st try without burning the blade or any pits.

But thanks for the links. Those blades are .012 thick, but he has a third blade doubling the bottom, so at the base it's .024", same thickness as the utility blades I welded above.

Thats inspiring, I have to get a TIG setup - that would be pretty useful around here if I could ever get good at it. (pic from the youtube). Problem is I don't have enough projects like that to ever get the practice time in.

I use to have a picture from a friend who tig welded two sheets of aluminum foil together. He has it hanging up over his work bench. It was one of those things that he wanted to see if he could do it.

Check out Plasma Welding on U-Tube. It's a cool process that would make razor blades simple to weld even setup as an outside corner. I've sold many plasma welding systems to the semi-conductor field that weld stainless steel foil with .5 amps under a microscope.. NASA has several systems doing Keyhole welding. Another interesting process. I like to see you guys trying this with mig. Not so easy.

Sodo go weld up some chain with your MIG out of drop ceiling hanger wire. I did this with my TIG. I think you could do it with a MIG though, it might be more difficult, maybe not. Give it a try and report back. here is the thread.
