This guy is awesome!! His name is gary and when i went to pick up my pump i told him bout all you guys and we got on his pc and i showed him my well help!!! string and he thought it was so cool !!! When i git off my pc this mornin i'm calling him gman and i've got to git some new batts for the digital cam and am goin to try and see if i can't go over git some pics tonite..and git him hooked on tbn TOOO!!!!!!!!!
He would be an incredible asset to our group...he's bin in the pump business for yearsand right off the top of his head he could tell u how big a pump yould need to pick a bb off the bottom of a 1000' deep well and make it hover at the 473' mark Mr MIKE/POPPA!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif believe me he's that good !!!!!!!!!! **** I'M PUMPED!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: WELL DONE!!! FER ALL TBNER\'S AND BETWEEN GATOR BOY

WAY TOO COOL EGON !!!! now don't quote me egon but i'm going to bet that rig was used to bring up dirt out of dug wells..the guy on the left appears to be standing on a ladder and the fellow siitin down has what appears to be a pile of fresh dirt behind him....cool rig...when i was living in alabama i painted an old plantation farmhouse (with the big pillars in front and all) and on their back porch was a steel plate which he removed for me one day(he and became good friends) and he showed me the coolest thing...a hand dug well about 50' deep ...the water was at the 40' mark and the well was about 5' across...i don' know what it is but all my life i've had a fascination for hand dug wells..i just think they are the coolest think ..personally i think drilled well are boring al heck because u really can't look down'em ....I wonder if anyone here feels the same??? Whenever i goto an old farmhouse i always try to scope out the well and look down it ...even to this day!!One day i'm gonna dig my own..talk more about what i want it to look like later on but one big hint..a spiral staircase... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Later guys /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Oh yeah POPPA.....I know junkster wasn't bein mean .....I think he was jist tryin to git my goat!!! Well junkster you can't have her !!! how do u think i keep my liddl lawn(patches of grass here and there) and the sprouts that keep coming off of my stumps that i've cut .....down!!!

Re: WELL DONE!!! FER ALL TBNER\'S AND BETWEEN GATOR BOY

Polecat, I was on a project where we used a cable tool rig to drill a well 285 feet deep, 36 inch diameter steel casing. Water was at 65 feet. I looked down that one a couple of times and each time felt ill. Kept imagining falling head first into it. It was big enough to get in but you would never turn around and get back out.

EEEEYYYYEEEEEEWWWWWW!

Anyway, I am just fine with a six inch or four inch diam. well, the only thing you will lose down that is your tape measure /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: WELL DONE!!! FER ALL TBNER\'S AND BETWEEN GATOR BOY

Polecat:

Sorry, it didn't work that way. Havent got a picture of where hole is started as this one is probably begining at the bottom of a dug well. Used to use this area as a fridge.

A post hole auger is used to drill down 6-10 feet. A 6 to 8 in of metal casing is put in the hole. A 1 inch iron drill pipe with a chizel and ball valve and seat is then put into the hole and attached to the A- frame arms by a rope on a winch/roller. The hole is filled with water. The A- frame goes up and down lifting and dropping the drill pipe which is manually rotated so the chizel end makes a round hole. The ball and seat act as a pump and pump bring up the drillings to a surface sump. From this sump water overflows back into the casing as the cycle is repeated. When water lenze is struck the excess water shows up by more than overfilling the sump.

Usually started with a 2 in. hole till acceptable water was found and then would ream out the exsisting hole using a larger chisel.

A casing is then run in and the bottom of the hole is drilled a little deeper. This alows the clays in the drillings to seal off the casing and also allows for a debri sup for the well.

Re: WELL DONE!!! FER ALL TBNER\'S AND BETWEEN GATOR BOY

OK YOU GUYS THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!
I just got off of the phone with gary and he has sold 2 of his small pumps in the past couple of weeks and has 2 more jobs that are goin to possibly going to need pumps in the next month or so!!
I'm not pushin anyone but he has 2-1/2 horse pumps and one jet pump left more will trickle in but thats a matter of ????
I was going to pm (still will) gman with this but figured i'd let u all know about it too as there were a few others that were interested also ..i'm going to see him sunday after church and am bringing my digital cam w/me so u guys can see all the pumps that are left...gman ...1/2 h.p myers 5gpm(a top name pump) ALL STAINLESS with self contained capacitor (what gives the motor its jump start) $250-$300 30- day guarantee u pay shipping....this pump i priced for myself and got pricesbetween $500 and !!! $900 about 1.5 mos, ago...U guys are welcome to do whatever u want jist tryin to help...as i stated in my "well help!!!!" string i am making nothing from this ...as a matter of fact it's costing me $$$ to go to his house but i jist want to repay the indebtedness that i fell i owe u guys for yer help ...i may have done all the legwork on saving /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif $1700/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifon my own well setup but u guys encouraged me and inspired me to GIT IT BOY!!! and i did and i thank ya'll as does my better half (she loves the exfoliating pressure we have now !!!!!!!!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
so i'm indebted to yous guys and this is my payback /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

ALSO FOR GMAN ..GARY IS GIVING ME (oops junkster) a amperage sheet so that you will know what you have to have for a generator and what size motors draw what ...yadda yadda yadda ,....will post it with the pics on sunday aft/eve
/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif cya ...gotta go play wit my cut

Re: WELL DONE!!! FER ALL TBNER\'S AND BETWEEN GATOR BOY

Fraid it's all history Polecat.

I'm actually toying with the idea of building one and drilling a well out at the farm. Just worried I'd hit a big granite rock though.

Re: WELL DONE!!! FER ALL TBNER\'S AND BETWEEN GATOR BOY

Last night I went out to make measurements on my well. The cap was tack welded on four spots. I took a cold chisel and pried up 2 corners and then used the chisel to cut the weld. I then peeled back part of the cap. With my flashlight, I could see water not that far down -- sorry Poppa.

I took a fishing pole with a large sinker on it and released it down the well. After it hit bottom I marked the line for later measuring. Depth to bottom of well: 197 feet. Next, I placed a bobber on the line and dropped her in -- this was to measure the depth of the water -- I was surprised that is was only 22 feet down. I was expecting it to be more like 60 feet.

My well produces 17 gpm.

Now, Polecat can relay this information to his pump-guy to start to fit me for a proper pump.

Re: WELL DONE!!! FER ALL TBNER\'S AND BETWEEN GATOR BOY

Gatorboy,

Just curious, you said the well produces 17GPM. Is this something that you know from the install or is this something you have determined from a later pump test?

Re: WELL DONE!!! FER ALL TBNER\'S AND BETWEEN GATOR BOY

OK GUYS!!!!!! Good mornin /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifWhere is everybody?
I couldn't sleep as my back is killing me and i'vebeen so excited about this string that i've been rollin so many thoughts around in my head that i jist had to git up and post'em!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
GREAT PICS GATORBOY!!!!!!
Yer gonna have to show me how to do that /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gifok here we go!!!

Last night i had the privilege of talkin Gatorman on his cell as he and his son tented out on his 48 acres with a bon fire goin and all!!! I'll bet he won't let his wife pack the cooler again for a campout!!!! She got the soda...bottled water....and other refreshments...but as I sat up here in maine, talking with him and enjoying a cold brewskie...he lamented the fact that........SHE HAD FORGOTTEN HIS!!!! ..brewskies!!!!!/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
As all of you campers know ....There's not much better after a hard weeks work and gittin camp setup and the fire roarin than leanin back in your foldin chair and lookin up at the stars and feeling the cool, prickly, smooth, refreshing taste of an ice cold brew rolling acroos yer tongue and down yer throat...there's only one thing better ...The reassuring feeling that u have a few more sittin on ice in the cooler beside you waiting to tantalize your senses!!!!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Whatchya think Gman????? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ok ...nuf teasin gster bout his wife forgittin d beer /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif....
Lets git some water runnin!!!
I'm glad the fishin pole idea worked well 4 u....Where your well is fairly shallow compared to mine...397' and Pops' 400'+...I thought that would be a fast way to get the two measurements (we'll talk about the third factor later ..static level ),you need for the basics of setting up a submersible pump system... (I used a 1000' roll of 1/4" nylon twine and a 1+1/4" spud wrench to do mine as i didn't want any entanglements)

1- the TRUE DEPTH of your well
2- THE HEAD LEVEL.....where the water level is (below ground) = how far the pump actually has to pump the water

Both of these #'s are very important...They tell you the depth that you can actually set the pump at and how powerful of a pump you need to get to put the water on "the ground".
The other thing you have to ask yourself is how much water am i going to need??? Are you running a household which will have cooking dishes and (family of five) five showers a day?
Or in addition to that do you see a furure need of also watering 50 head of cattle..There are approx. #'s for figureing this and we will have a chart on that soon enough...
One thing to keep in mind is that the less "HEAD LEVEL" you have the better off you are...Reason being....If a 1/2 h.p 5gpm (gallons per minute) pump will give you 5 gpm. set at 200' with a head level of 50' (all made up #'s but will have all the exact charts soon) then if the well has a head level of 40' it will give you 7gpm. and if your head level is at 30' it will give you 9 gpm....and the amount of water the same pump will pump goes exponentially.....
Poppa...if you look at his pics there is a tag on his well pipe and i'm going to guess that it has the name of the well co. that drilled it, the date it was drilled, the depth of the well, and the gpm that the well was putting out at the time they drilled it..... If anyone ever buys a piece of land with a well already on it , one of the things that you need to know is who drilled it...Well co's keep logs and as Egon can testify most of these #'s are actually public record...The gojv't wants to know everything...That's my personal jab...but these #'s can also be useful for finding out how aquifers and surrounding water tables are doing...
Now taking a step back...and looikng at gatorman's picture I personally think he is in awesome shape. He was given a price of approx. $1200-$1500 to put in a 3/4 hp. 10-15gpm
pump....I told Gman that for what he needs right now (enough water to irrigate trees) that i personally thought that a 1/2 h.p. motor should do..BUT I also tod him that he ought to think about his future needs too..Having said that, and knowing how he has to get power to his pump...A GENERATOR!!! ???? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I jsut want ot play the devils advocate here!! and being as we don't have all the #'s and charts yet...I know in my heart that the 1/2 h.p. pump is now most definitely the way to go
First of all he does not have a "jist plug it in power supply".
and he is using a generator, but also wants to keep costs at an absolute minimum..(don't we all) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif My clouded thought's (it's 5:30am and i've been on this page since 3:00am) on this project right now are:how to git gman the most bang(water /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) for HIS BUCK$$$!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
He doesn't have his generator yet and we need to figure out how big a one he needs for pushing the pump and for running other tools as well(no pun intended). I look at the #'s and know that we are in great shape but there are a few other concerns that i feel we must address...Gatorman wrote me in a pm.( know u won't mind me revealing this dude) that some kid's/teenager's possibly young partyer's had bent over his NO TRESPASSING POSTS and had come on to his land!!!!! Now gman told me he had an understanding with some of the kids in the neighborhood that they could 4wheel on his land (he has wisely befriended them intead of pissin'em off and tellin'em to stay the <a href="mailto:h@@@">h@@@</a> out!!! ) as long as they " KEEP AN EYE ON THINGS". He even has their names...What I'm concerned with is the liability that he may have accidentally put on himself and his family.....While I was on the cell with him last night the ruffians/hooligans/vandals showed up!! (Let me know how that went and maybe right here in our little cyberworld/string) and what has been constantly on my mind
is what has happened to our fellow TBN'ER MDBARB (in his string regarding "need help regarding easements" which been running for 2 years now!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif (if you have'nt read it please take the time to do so ..but u better do it in stages as it's almost 40 pages LONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
