The machine is 4 hours old not 4 years.I think that mower has the plastic transmission.

That is just sad... Husqvarna used to be known for using very high quality steel in their produc...

If they are in fact using nylon or some other plastic - that Bites...

I have 2 Very hard used riding mowers with all metal drivetrain construction and am going to keep them running as long as I can. (the newer one is only 33 years old.)

I can't believe new riding mowers are being built with plastic gears- until they can surpass the torque load and longevity of steel count me out.

Husqvarna is still using high quality steel in their products - just not in the low end price point models. Deere is (apparently) using the same plastic (polymer) case CVT in some of their low end stuff, as is MTD and others. Pay more money, get better components.

You may be out for a very long time... Plastic has been used for timing gears, and many other substitutes for steel - including gears for transfer cases in GM 4WD vehicles, for many years. I'm with you on them not being as good as steel, but from gauging wear on automobile timing gears - its a good thing that they switched for rubber timing belts!

Cheaper, i.e 'more profit', is the golden word with all manufacturers.

I hear you on the timing gears, changed Many sets of GM nylon coated (cam gear)
The crank gears were always steel afaik
they seemed to strip at about 100k miles. At least GM OHV engines were Non interference...:D

Most corporate companies just throw leeters in the round file. Might have better luck with companies when after two months of buying their machine, they send you a survey to fill out about how you like the new tractor that you purchased. That's what Kubota did to me ten years ago, of course being the negative person that I am and a little upset how this new tractor was working, I filled out their survey in a 200% percent negative way that I could, knowing that the survey was just going to the landfill anyways,,,,sooo about two weeks after that the dealer called me up, long story short they said Kubota kind of balled them out for not tending the small issue.

MAN! I feel your pain!

I feel embarrassed. I've had this second hand Bolens HT23 for nearly 20 years, and I got it in trade for a cheap motorbike. It must be from the 70's.

It blows snow, pushes with the blade, rips with a 3pth single ripper, pulls the yard trailer filled with rocks, compost or firewood, and wood splitter too, starts at 10 below, and waits under a simple shed roof , always on the ready.

Yes, the Kohler engine blew a head gasket last year, and yes I needed to replace a hydraulic line due to chaffing wear a couple of years ago. True, the plastic dash cracked and I needed to go to ebay to find an all metal replacement. Oh, and the throttle cable gave up the ghost last year too. (hmm.. seems like last year was a landslide of stuff ... ;-)

But it's on ORIGINAL RUBBER, The HST works fine, The PTO drives the blower just fine, and now with the engine refreshed, it starts up just about 1/2 second BEFORE I turn the key ;-)

Why can't they all be like this.

Cut your losses! push the Husky in the ditch and get something old and good! ;-)

Count me in as one of the lucky ones, no doubt. But I certainly sympathize with your dilemma. I've managed to buy my share of 'lemons' in the past as well. My unsolicited advice is to get it running, wash up that mower, hit it with a little polish, and sell it as quick as you can, for whatever you can sell it for.

Life's way too short to spent your waning years fretting over a junk mower. Get rid of it and get you something that you can enjoy, hopefully without spending all of your time and money fixing it. I have no idea nor suggestion as to what brand or model that might be for you... Buying a mower is as tough as buying the "right" pair of shoes. There's a perfect mower out there for you, somewhere. Finding it is the hard part. But if I'd have had to gone through what you've gone through, it would NOT be orange.
