Just be glad it wasn't a diesel. I spent $72 just to top off the tank on my F-250 with the 6.0 and that was only for 17 gallons. I spent $75 to fill up my F-150 with 4.6 the day before. I wish I could use a small vehicle with good mileage but I can't justify the added cost for another vehicle and insurance just to improve my mileage the few times I am going somewhere without needing the bed of the truck.

But when the sun comes out please snap a few pics:D

I heard that. I just ran to texas last weekend with my f250/6l engine... every 4.5 hrs of hi-way time was nearly 100$!!

I'm making my 15 year old daughter keep track of all the financial records regarding this truck. Purchased price, insurance, plates, sales tax, fuel, maint., etc.... That should be an eye opener if she thinks she can afford a car with a part time job next summer. ;)

I think most people would be shocked to learn exactly what their vehicles are costing them. I keep spreadsheets on my vehicles so I know exactly what it's costing; almost enough to make a grown man cry.:D We've had our 2001 Windstar about 5.25 years now (bought it used with 27k miles on it), I've filled it with gas 226 times, and yesterday was the first time a fill up has gone over $60.:(

Yeah, you and I have had this discussion before. The one about how many cents per mile it costs to own and operate a car over its life. Our 2000 Impala is currently about 30 cents a mile since we've had it. Our 1993 Chevy van is $1.10 a mile. I haven't started figuring the Suburban yet, but I imagine it will be nearly the same as the van, since we will not drive it very often. If we never drive it we still have to pay for plates and insurance. That 2nd or 3rd car can really add up. We sure do pay for that convenience.

David, you have one that's lower than expected, and one that's higher.:D Of course, we'll never know exactly for sure until we dispose of them and see what the salvage value, if any, was, but right now, assuming I got Kelly Blue Book, good condition, trade-in value, our '01 Windstar is at $.43 a mile and the '01 Ranger is at $.66 a mile.

Last week we bought a really nice '93 Chevy Suburban K1500 with the 5.7 (350). Beautiful truck. Only 64,000 original miles. Former emergency services truck. Always serviced, etc... Originally white with green stripe, now fire engine red. It has a 42 gallon gas tank. That was my first $100.00 fill up ever in my life, and that was only a little less than 30 gallons.:eek::eek:

Fortunately, I only drive it about 20 miles each Monday, and anytime my wife needs to take the car and I have to go somewhere. I will use it to tow my tractor and haul the extended family, if needed. Most of the time it will be a very nice driveway ornament. :) I'll take some pictures if the sun every comes out again.

That 93-99 body Suburban is the largest ever built. When it came time to get a replacement for our 1990 Suburban the best deal I could find was a used 2002. Could not find a 98 or 99 in good shape. The 2002 has a lot of features but not the interior room. I was hoping to find a 98 or 99 turbo diesel Suburban but no luck. The story I got was they were being bought up to be shipped to Mexico and other places overseas.

That was my wife's car until I made her sell it ;) '99 K1500 350, 16 mpg and a fabulous snow and tow vehicle. That beast would go anywhere but those 40 gallon fill-ups always hurt! She now drives a minivan, what a blow to the ego....

Tell me about it. I was trying to pull out of the parking lot and drove up to the little automatic gate. It went up. I pulled out but had to stop because the nose was haning in the street and traffic was coming. The little arm came down on my rear door hinge and scuffed up the paint a bit. Not enough room between the gate and the street. :) I think the scuffs will buff out.

The reason our van costs so much per mile is that we rarely drive it. One day a week my wife goes to work early, so I have to drive the van. Most other days we ride together. So, the van sits there, with insurance a few hundred bucks a year and plates another fifty or so, plus an annual oil change. So even if I never drive it, it costs us about 4-5 hundred a year. 10m per week X 50 weeks a year = 500 miles per week. Divide that by $500 dollars a year in costs = a dollar a mile. Yikes! But, we did drive it more when gas was cheap. Took a fiew vacations in it, too. It is a 3/4 ton short wheel base conversion, with big cushy seats. But now the V6 is smoking a bit. It needs a valve job and about $1000 in front end repairs. It is rusting out pretty badly and the tires are worn out. It would take about $2500 bucks to get it safe and nice again, and is only worth about a thousand. Plus, the V6 is just too small to tow our trailer with tractor on it. So, it is going to the scrap yard this spring, after I remove the trailer hitch, transmission and a vew other things that I want off of it. It was a good van, but it has to go. The Suburban will be a better tow vehicle and is almost as roomy inside as the van, but has lower head room. :) Plus, it is 4wd for those very rare heavy snow storms when I get called in to work and our property is sand and the van can have a few problems pulling the trailer out once in a while. All in all, I think the Suburban will be a better fit for our current needs in a second vehicle.;)

of the cost anymore!

I agree with you, at time you are better of not even thinking about mpg's or cost to fill up. LOL

David,
I heard a fella the other day say that he was going to use all of his refund (Presidential Stimulus Package) money to buy gas with for a couple months. That's pitiful!

Speaking of fuel, Congress had like (5?) top oil company exec's on the carpet earlier this week...haven't heard the outcome yet...maybe I'll google it.

As for my truck, I get 19 city, 20 hwy on my Tacoma. Wife's 4Runner gets 22city and 23 hwy. I filled up the other day, cost me $64.00. After reading some of these posts, I don't feel so badly.:) However, I told my wife that I wouldn't mind selling my truck, then going to buy one of those small Tacoma's. I've heard they get near 30mpg, 4cyl, single cab, not 4x4. The last 3 of the last sentence is what's stopping me though:rolleyes:
