Stopped by the dealers today. Mechanic told me a solenoid went out inside the transmission. Seems Kioti doesn't want people getting inside the trans and messing around changing parts so they shipped a new transmission. They were working on replacing it when I stopped by and told me it should be ready in a couple of days.

That makes no sense to me... they send a new transmission instead of a $10 part? Yeah... ok... My 15 year old DK35 with shuttle is running just fine. Hopefully if you ever get a flat tire they'll send you a new tractor... :)

This sounds like either they have a known issue and are swapping out transmissions to resolve, or they are swapping them and returning the 'core' for a factory rebuild to insure it's done right. Seems extreme, but it does give the customer the best repair either way.

Made perfect sense to me. Discussed this in length with someone who knew a lot more than me and he said the hydra transmissions are supposed to be assembled in a dust free environment. Seems to me the company was just trying to do a much better job.

What does your 15 year old shuttle trans have to do about this topic?

Randy, glad you're back up and running! :thumbsup: My experience with Kioti warranty support has been excellent.

On the HST vs. geared discussion for CUTS, here's another data point. I bought my still-bomb-proof little Kubota 2150HST (22 hp, down from 24 hp after allowing for the HST) way back in 1993. At the time, the dealer told me it was the largest HST tractor Kubota had yet made. He figured that was going to change quickly as CUT users realized the benefits and asked for more power with HST. :)

Fred, I think what I addressed is, in fact, exactly your point.

What you are fighting is technology evolution. Time marches on and technology changes and creeps into our lives wether we like it or not. Some people are afraid of technological change and resist it because of some irrational fear of what might happe.

Others embrace change and innovation and enjoy the journey into the future. HST has been widely available fo what, thirty or forty years now, and is a proven technology. The next level of technology for moving dirt is likely electrification, like diesel electric locomotive technology. We値l see.

The only thing constant is change.

So HST outsells manual 3-1 but you hear AT LEAST as many clutch replacement stories here as hydro troubles.
Exactly why rental yards don't have manual tractors.

Op - glad you have your rig back. Hopefully its better than new. I'd get some time on it as soon as you can to verify that its 100%.

BTW - Caterpillar's newer small and medium sized wheel loaders are all hydrostatic drive. I operated one (938) this winter that had about 4800 hrs and it was quick and powerful. Had an upgraded 3.5 CY bucket from a 950 on it, and there was no problem filling it when digging into a pile of fill or stone.

Each has their place. I can perform loader work on my old crash box 770 just as fast as my new HST tractor, but I'm a lot less fatigued and would be a lot easier on the tractor too. I'm always bound to grind at least once going back and forth. Almost never do that on my HST tractor :)
