Good to hear that you’ve tried it with success! Did you knock any of the rust off, or just roll right over it as-is?

I’ll be doing the same thing!
I just knocked the loose stuff off (mostly surface rust). POR really doesn't go over painted surfaces to well and seems like it is thinned out. It actually seems to thicken some when actually painted over rust and covers better.

I used the POR15 Gloss Black. Same that I used on my trucks rear-end. That is where I got the idea from as it held up to the sandblasting that it gets when going down the road that I figured it would stand up to a snowblower. Plus, it seems the surface it leaves is pretty smooth.

I used Rustoleum Rust Reformer. It can go over rust, and top coated with color of choice. I also use on my truck undercarriage. Has stopped rust in its tracks, unless rocks chipped it off. (then I just reapply)
Have you used POR-15 before? How does the Rustoleum product compare to it? POR is pretty incredible, after it is cured you can beat it with a hammer and it doesn’t chip off.

I have never used it. I went the simple route first. I will remember that for future reference. Does it require any special tools etc?

Just a paint brush. Remove any oils like any other paint if any.

Has anyone tried POR on the inside of the blower and chute? POR is super durable, can go over rust. I'm not sure how "slippery" it is compared to enamel or sno-flo paint. I'd be curious to see how it holds up inside the blower and chute.
I did use a Pittsburgh two-part coating (Post #7 above). The environment in the fan section is so harsh I can't believe any kind of paint / coating will survive for any long period of time. As much as it didn't please me it wasn't possible to avoid blowing stones along with the snow.

UHMWPE (Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) is reportedly used for dump truck linings, snowplow (and blower) edges and other uses that subject it to an abrasive environment. Several years ago I lined the chute of my blower with the stuff and have had no visible wear, and since it is slippery, no clogs in wet snow. A couple of years ago I lined the periphery of the fan chamber, but Murphy took note, and we have had no blowable snow for 2 seasons, so I cannot comment on how well the UHMWPE holds up there.

Captain Dirty - don't feel bad. Here - I've had three snow "events". Two were one inch each and the snow melted the same day. The latest was a whopping three inches. It completely melted the following day.

Our weather here on the dry EA side of WA state is becoming much like the West or wet side of the state. Snow just does not stand a chance with our warmer weather and rain, rain, rain.

The last six years I have not had to plow snow. I have a mile long gravel driveway - mailbox area -yard. I think the good 'ol days may have left us here - for a while.

My concern with lining the blower (particularly the fan chamber) would be having moisture spend a long time between the liner and the steel. When I had a blower it was often used where there was some road salt mixed with the snow. That's twice as concerning as doing virgin unsalted snow.

Salt's a given here in PA. This morning I plowed our church parking lots. Only 2" of snow, but didn't believe it would all melt for tomorrow. They're about 1-1/2 miles from home. When I got back there was salty crud way up on the roof of the Kubota.

First job when returning home was to pull out the DeWalt 20V pressure washer. It's rigged up with maybe a 10' hose and I use it with a 5 gallon bucket. To keep the pickup tube in the bottom of the bucket I ran it through a short section of pipe. Nice thing is not having to pull hoses out - or thaw them:)

Before lining the fan chamber I wire brushed, primed, and gave the metal multiple brush coats of Rustoleum. Hopefully, the UHMWPE will provide physical protection from the stones that pass through, and the paint coatings will remain intact and protect the metal from any salts. I live in a "Watershed Protection Area", but I know the DPW still puts salt in the sand so the sand doesn't freeze solid. A few drops of silver nitrate will turn milky when dropped on the road indicating chlorides are present, but the tractor and blower have never had the coating of salt residue like my other vehicles that are driven out of the "Reduced Salt Zone".

Perhaps others will confirm my observation that as one goes further south, the highway departments are less likely to rationalize the purchase of machinery (plow trucks) and become more aggressive about using de-icing chemicals.

We have signs along PA283 indicating it's a watershed area. There are contact phone numbers, etc. However, the state trucks seem to pretreat with brine and sprinkle salt just like anywhere else.
