My 14 hp B&S has that valve clearance compression release and I burned up a starter and replaced the battery. B&S doesn't address the compression release in trouble shooting very well and I had a long troubleshooting session to find out about adjusting valves to get the compression release to work. More needs to be advertised about that issue I think. One of the other posts asked about that Anitiback fire solenoid on the carburator. Well Mine continually stuck shut and the engine would not start so I ground off about 3/16" off the tip of the needle a put it back on and it starts all the time now. bjr
