What am I Missing? 1991 Ford F-350 hood latch

I once unlatched the hood of my fairy new 94 Dakota. Got distracted and later drove off. I didn't get far on the back roads before the hood somehow overcame the secondary latch and flew up. Not very pleasant! Hood was ruined so I just got an old spare tire storage bolt, drilled a hole in the hood and used the big wing nut. I still remember BLOOD on the hood from a sharp edge of the hole!

looks like the peice on the left is pushed over. should cover more of that hole.

How badly is the hood crumpled? I don't remember exactly how those hoods were set up, but if the pin isn't seated into the latch properly it won't work. It also just may need a little lubrication, as IT has already suggested. I will caution you that it's no fun to be driving along at 45 mph and have the hood fly completely open because he latch doesn't line up, blocking the windshield; and don't ask me how I know that.

I can completely understand a hood flying up! Very exciting but no fun. I'm just missing the Latch Striker on the hood itself.

I am at Wits end, or maybe just Half-Wits end but I can't figure this out. 1991 Ford F-350: The hood won't latch and I can't tell if I'm missing a part of not.

I've spent hours on the internet and pouring through old Motors Manuals and can't find a single picture of the underside of the hood, to see what is supposed to be there. The latching part down by the radiator is fine.

Any photos or diagrams would be much appreciated. Thanks.

We have finally figured that out but still haven't been able to source one outside of a wrecking yard. I will have to make one.

Yes sir, most are manufactured press welded to the hood.
You might be able to cut a donor out of a wrecked hood as opposed to buying a complete used hood.

You might be up to fabricating a hood pin latch kit like this or just purchase one.

Just another thought thrown at a problem.
