What he saidThe latch in the picture is CLOSED.
Open it from inside the truck THEN close the hood.
Again... your picture & the picture in post #50 look exactly like my functioning hoods do.
You are missing NOTHING.
The latch hooks on the hood under the spring. NO extra pieces.

Here's a pic I found from a 92 F150 (same hood). The mark in the small recessed and reinforced area should be where it latches.View attachment 673145
Sorry. You are absolutely correct. I can't believe I didn't see this sooner. Thanks for not giving up on me and reposting.

If the latch is staying in that position it might be sticking or the spring is broken.I just moved the Latch out a little for the photo. It operates properly.
My Suburban's passenger door does that sometimes. For some reason the latching fingers don't open all the way when the door is opened. Then, when you close it, they hit the striker, forcing the latch to close even further before it engages the striker. From that point on, I'll never be able to close the door without first opening the handle to re-open the latch. Sometimes that doesn't work, and I'll have to use my fingers to open the latch all the way. Lubing it all up and operating it without closing the door a few times helps. But sometimes, even if it's clean as a whistle, all the lube in the world won't help a worn out part.
So now that you have it figured out, just make sure it's clean, lubed and not bent, or it'll happen again on you.
I just didn't want to looking for the non existent catch the rest of your life lolSorry. You are absolutely correct. I can't believe I didn't see this sooner. Thanks for not giving up on me and reposting.
