Rotary Cutter What am I missing here

After checking around with dealers in the area last summer .... and getting surprised by their lack of interest in making a sale .......... I went to TSC and bought their 48" countryline machine. I talked to one of the lads working there and he knocked off 10% for "a rusty product discount". I think it was $720 for a new machine that has worked well so far..... and it still has no rust.

About two years ago, after reluctantly passing on a nice used MX5 Deere RC (due to it being too heavy for my prior JD790 tractor)....I went shopping for a lightweight cutter. I found a KK 60" model at my local TSC store and snapped it up for $550 at an "off season" price.

The blades are about the same heft as the MX5 blades and shred everything I feed it and it has not given me a lick of trouble. I store everything with a gearbox indoors.....so paint has not been a big issue to me.

IMO.....A cutter is one of those implements that may be better to buy new than used.....unless you know the history.

Thank you for all of the replies. It helps to get different opinions from those with more experience than I have buying equipment. I just found myself confused by exactly what one post said "the lack of interest to make a sale"? The competition in the area is growing as we just got both a Tractor Supply and a new equipment dealer in the last year. That makes four places to purchase attachments within 20 miles. I will be looking around.
