What can an old 2 wheeler do?

I don't know where you are, but used Gravelys are plentiful in most parts of the country. This probably isn't a good time of the year to advertise them, but in the late winter or spring they are usually for sale. It's not uncommon to see a good Gravely with a few attachments for under $1000. Do your homework first, and I'd suggest one with the four speed transaxle and for sure a governor. Some of the older ones didn't have governors. After about 1978 they all had Kohler engines and governors.

Yep Gene is right, the last one I bought I paid 20 bucks for the tractor, (trashed motor 50 L ), 20 bucks for a 30" mower, 50 bucks for a good square shoot snowblower, 50 bucks for a 42" sickle mower. The com 12 I got for haulin it off, it came with a snowblower, push blade, 30" mower, 40" mower,rotary plow, pto attachment,and a steering sulky. So I'm well under $1000.

If you bought a tractor with an unreliable engine would/have you replaced it with a new motor? Are there kits available for an engine swap?

Well the com 12 would be the easiest to change engines or any of the Kohler models, but you have to change the adapter plate on the trans and use a different gear on the motor because the Kolhers they used had a stepped crankshaft, but all the parts to do it are able to be obtained from Gravely. The older L models can be changed but I don't know of any kits you would have do fab it up yourself, there use to be a place in New Zealand with kits but last I knew they quit sending them to the US. I did see a site from Sweeden where a guy put a Yanmar deisel on an L. One problem converting an L, the original motor didn't turn at 3600 rpm it was lower and a modern engine would take the ground speed up

most older super L or L gravely's have a lot of crank play. You can dig up a set of geared hubs which they used to lower the ground speed of some of the first gen single speed trans they had.

with a sulky the 30" deck is fun to mow with and have confortablly mowed 2 acers at my uncles many times as a kid.

Much good information can be gleaned from these sites.

Ive got the peices to an old clutch steered David Bradley that Im planning to restoresoon. The metal has been gone for years it used a gear drive to operate the pto shat that had a splined socket for attachments. This on was used on a truck patch and on a hog farm with a pull blade to clean the pens. Not too long ago I saw one at a show that was home built from a lawn mower rear end. and the same man had one from a golf cart axle. and small tractor tires. The neatest attachment made for one to me was the front mounted backhoe I think it was on a gravely and the backhoe was made by the same folks that make Terramite hoes.

Hi guys
Just finished Repower a 5665 2 wheel 12 hp Kohler Replaced witha 13 Hp Honda GX390 the shalf 1 X 3.31/64 long by Northern Specs.
I had to make a spacer, But still used the Kohler adapter.
Also made a spacer to between the gear and motor .
If any one wants I can get More spacers maded. Thanks Bruce
