At the risk of derailing the OP's thread, try one of these traps:

Swat one and put it in the jar as bait. Hang it in a sunny area near where the bees are active.

BD, feel free to "derail". Those things are eating the rafters of one of my barns too, so this is of interest to me. How does the trap work?

2, are you saying Lowe's was able to order siding to match yours, even though it was not a brand they carry? Or, just that they were able to match the color with a brand that they do carry?

Looking at their web site, it looks like they carry 5 brands, plus something called "unbranded". But they don't list "Alside" which is my brand. Perhaps I'm making too big a deal out of this, maybe siding is siding... I know even less about siding than I do about treated wood.

I do know this, if I can't get pretty close to an exact match, it's going to bug me. A lot.
Not sure where in MO you are, but Alside has a few distributors in the State.

Alex, thanks for that. The place in "North Kansas City" is closest, but that one looks like just a warehouse, not someplace you could actually walk in and buy something (although, that's just going by what I see on Google Street View). They also listed a dealer on the south side of town, which I actually visited, but he said the closest one of their stores that sells Alside is on the Kansas side.

All academic for now at least because it turned out I had enough extra in the stash to do the job. Would be good to know where to go if I ever need any more though. Me being me, I'd kind of like to just go buy some more to have "in stock" anyway, just in case, and before they stop making it....

Replaced the missing siding yesterday and this morning the deck went bye-bye in the dumpster. Next will build a little more permanent stair/landing. Going to try to re-use some of the good pieces of lumber reclaimed from the old deck (yes, there actually were a few, mostly deck boards and guardrail pieces).

Discovered another occupation I don't want to be - siding installer...
Looks good

Thanks. I was able to cheat because I still had all the original pieces, including the insulation and starter strip. So, I just lined up the old nail holes and didn't have to do any leveling. Just had to cut a couple of new pieces to length and re-use the old ones.

They work very well. The bees are drawn into one of the holes and see light below. The light attracts them and they can't find their way out. I have to empty that jar twice a season. In three seasons, I have almost eliminated them all.

As I said, the trick is to place it in a sunny area near where they are active. A dead bee in the jar is also good bait.

They check in, but don't check out.

I'm redecking a deck I built 32 years ago with "old school" pressure treated. Other than deck boards the joists and beams are still in good shape. Even the posts buried in the ground and concrete (allowed by code back then) still seem solid.

I have several of these. Problem is, they fill up in no time. I have found it works best for me to spray the wood with high yield 38

Yeah, they can be a pain to empty if they're not in a convenient location. I can easily reach mine from my elevated deck.
