What Did I Do Wrong?

i have always used the amount of squat method. i drive onto the trailer watching the rear end of the truck, i know about how much tongue weight by how far down the talegate goes in realtion to tractor position on the trailer. This may not be an exact measurement but has worked for me for years. One thing i can add alos is i didnt thing my little 1800 lb zd 326 would matter until i was doing 75 down the turnpike and avoided a tire in the road. From that day on i squat the rear end even with it on an 18' trailer. My b3030 is a balancing act, im still trying to find the "sweet" spot for it. all the way foreward is to much weight so i have been slowly moving it back each trip.

what would you guys advise on a good brake controller?

One other thing to check is your tire pressures on your truck , you need max pressure in the rear truck tires for heavy loads

I find that I don't start getting tongue weight until my rear tractor tires are in front of the rear trailer axle. Its even more critical when John D is wearing his hoe....I also test the brakes before I leave my long hilly gravel driveway and frequently use them to slow right down when I see a stop coming up.

that about where my "sweet spot" is.
For the record i DO NOT tow my b3030 at 75 mph, uses way to much fuel not to mention the danger factor. I DID tow my zd326 at 70 to 75 but now its 65 to 70 and just stay in the slow lane. When all that happened to me i was rushing from one job to another and learned my leson.
