Papachaz... The sidewalk looks great, along with the grading work!

The idea about breaking the bags into the FEL is outstanding! Worst part about that is now I feel really stupid....I mixed about 60 - 80# bags last year....moved them from the shed out to the mixer, but lifted ever one of those boogers up on top of the mixer ( I have the same HF one).....I never even thought about breaking in the bucket...so much easier!

Question: how long / wide is the walkway and how many bags did you use?

Oh, another question: Have you tried running the pine needles through the chipper? Is so, how did they come out?

YES!!! much easier to shovel it into the mixer from the bucket! All I had to do was flip the bag so it was on the bucket, then bust the bottom of it out. I did 10 80# bags at a time

Sidewalk was 20' long and 3' wide. The quickrete concrete calculator told me I'd need 42 80# bags, which is the magic number to get the bulk discount at Home Depot. I actually used 36 bags, I used 2x4's for the forms, and the calculator website said 4" slab....although I can't image a half inch thinner would equal 6 bags....I'm NOT a concrete man, but it's wayyyy cheaper to do it this way than having it delivered and paying someone else to do it. It didn't come out too bad, the wife was happy with it, LOL

Oh, another question: Have you tried running the pine needles through the chipper? Is so, how did they come out?

no, I haven't tried it. This particular model isn't considered a 'shredder' and I think it would just clog it up. I know back in the summer, doing limbs with leaves on them had a tendency to do so

Did my walk last year before I had the Blue Djinn. 4' x 35', forget how many bags. Did 2 80s at a time in an older wheelbarrow, mixing with a shovel, 5-6 bags per pad, 2 pads a day. That was all I could take before it got too hot for the day.

Thought about the mixer, but I could do more in the wheelbarrow without trying to get it in the small opening. Now I'd probably just mix it in the bigger bucket.

Blue Djinn is stuck in the shed again due to mud, mud and more mud. So much mud, it's hard to walk around let alone try to move a ton of metal. The creeks be a risin' and we got several more inches of rain on tap this week.

it's so much easier to shovel it into the mixer and let the mixer do the work though. You can put it inside the form, mix from one side and dump to the other side. 8 shovels is pretty much an 80 lb bag, or at least that's what it took to get one bag out when I broke it in there just to count. Add some water to the mixer, add a few shovels, add some more water, etc you get the consistency you want and dump it, start over. While it was mixing, if I had to rake any to the side that's the time to do it. 3 or 4 mixer fulls, move down a little bit and screed it. Didn't take long at all to pour it. My problem is being patient enough to let it dry the right amount to start working it....LOL

I do understand about the mud. There are still parts of my yard I don't even look at for fear of getting my eyes stuck....

Hooked up the gopher machine to the tractor then roaded the tractor over and put out a round bale. Then ran the gopher machine over about 25 acres.

I had the Wicked Twin on so I pulled a brush pile apart so I could cut up the bigger stuff for firewood. For the trip back I grabbed a big Wicked Twin sized scoop of the hay/cow manure/Bermuda grass from around the feeder and hauled it back to spread it on my sisters yard where she is having trouble getting grass to grow.

I set the gopher machine back under the shed and readied the tractor for a job later this week. I put the power rake back on, topped off the fuel and put a dose of Lucas fuel treatment in.

968 hrs on the clock when I shut it off this afternoon.

I usually do take pic's, just was busy that day and didn't think of it.

I had few minutes before work this morning so I started building a pad for a portable building with the LS. I will get pic's in the next day or so when I finish the pad.

My property is on a hill and somewhat tiered. Highest point with the house is about 30 feet above the lowest point. Around the house is lawn, driveway and other ares that can't really be worked as far as tractor stuff. Lowest point where any crops would go is just barely above flood levels and has flooded in past years. Current flood water is only about 3 feet below that area and rising, so it is fully saturated just below the surface.

In between, about 10 feet below the house and driveway is where the shed sits with the machines. There is a small rise that's usually sod. I cut it up a bit last fall just before the wet set in, so it hasn't had a chance to regrow any grass yet and is very, very slippery when wet. Impossible to even walk on, let alone move a heavy machine.

I took advantage of barely freezing temperatures this morning to move the Blue Djinn up to the hard driveway so I could use it over the next few days to do a few things along the side of the road that is currently closed to through traffic by 4' of flood water or more. Even at that, I left fairly deep ruts in the 31 degree ground surface.
