What do Tire Sizes Mean?

I know this is likely a dumb question, but can anyone tell me how to interpret tire sizes. For example, on the BX2200 Kubota brochure, the front tires are listed as 18-8.5 -8. For the 2710/2910, the front tire is listed simply as 7-12. And for the Power Trac PT425, the size is listed as 23-10:50x12. What do these number mean? I assume it's some combination of Height, Inside Diameter and Width. Obviously, I'm trying to get an understanding of the Height and Width, and when possible, the inside diameter of different tire/tractor combinations. Any help is appreciated.

marrt, 18x8.5-8 is 18 = tire diameter(o.d.), 8.5 = width of tire, 8 = rim diameter. 7-12 is 7 = width, 12 = wheel diameter. 23x10.50-12 is same as 18x8.5-8. Hope this provides some help, I'm sure others will have more info.

Follow-up question. Will a tire sized 24x12.00-12 fit on a wheel which currently has a tire sized 23x10.50-12?
