Having to mow every 10 days or so, my neighbors could not afford $250-$300/mo.

I worked for myself in a different line for 20 years. The first time that I got burned- gave a guy a price to prune some apple trees, half a day's work so I didn't write a contract- when I finished he handed me a check for 1/2 the amount (barely enough to pay for my gas) and a big s---eating grin on his face, daring me to try to get the rest.
After that I always had a contract, and always charged enough to cover my insurance and all applicable taxes. If they can't afford to pay their way, I didn't have time to deal with them.

That’s less than 1/4 of an acre. Assuming it’s on a route I make anyway and the obstructions are minimal I’d probably do that for $25. It wouldn’t take but a few minutes with my 72” cut mower. Maybe I live in the wrong place. I could get used to 3k a day.

It's funny. Your dollar a minute "sounded" high but the $25.00 seems way low, and yet the dollar a minute equates to almost half an hour which would be right (few obstructions).

A contract will only give you something to work with in court, but who wants to go through that?

Maybe you should have gone back and trimmed them a little lower..like at the ground.

I never advertise that rate. People don’t like to pay an hourly rate more than they make but hardly ever figure out how much I’m charging an hour by themselves. I think I could mow the 1/4 acre lot with no obstacle in 5 minutes. Probably 10 minutes with a house on it. This field takes 30 minutes and 35 at a more leisurely pace. I did a yard last week that was severely overgrown ( read hard on belts ) and I charged $110 for 80 minutes work.

It's always nice when the customer likes you, has money and is willing to part with it.

Not, the ones that want the cheapest cut in town. I mean, there is nothing wrong with that. I just won't be doing the work.

To some, it's just an expensive recurring expense.
