Pure & simple, it was the dealer.
I was inexperienced in tractors, but thought I wanted either a 110 TLB or a Kubota L39. I was leaning toward the L39.
The Kubota dealer gave me a quote on a basic L39, but he didn't have one I could drive and the kids working there were just that -- kids.
I went over to the Deere dealer and his price was a few thousand higher, but he showed me the machine, let me drive it and then explained that he ordered all of his 110s with all of the extra hydraulics, and a 4-n-1 loader bucket. Then he explained why I wanted those features. He was right.
Back to the Kubota dealer, and the guys there priced out one equipped just like the Deere. Well, almost. They didn't have HST, and it wasn't even an option. Their's came to about $1500 less than the Deere.
I agonized over whether the HST was really worth $1500. I decided it probably was.
Back to the Deere dealer. He said before you buy this, I want to come out and look at your property just to be sure you are getting the right machine. So, he came out and looked it over before I bought. Now he had a sure sale, but took the chance on losing it just to make certain I would be happy.
Two days later he delivered the tractor. I was a little unhappy that it had 13 hours on the clock instead of 1 or 2. But since then I have come to realize that a 13 hour 110 was a much better deal than a 1 hour L39. Even for $1500 more.
Better fit, finish, design, and the HST all make the decision right.
