If you think the oil companies have a bird nest on the ground, then you should invest in an oil well. There is a good chance you will lose all your money, a better chance you will break even, and a small chance you will make a lot of money. These are the risks the oil companies take, and there is a finite amount of production available for them to sell. If I was them I would get all I can get before it runs out.

I don't understand why some people think that certain commodities are owed to them at a price they think its worth. Free enterprise doesn't work that way. Nobody is holding a gun to your head to buy their product. Buy a fuel efficient vehicle or get a bicycle if you don't like it.

The market will determine when an alternative fuel source will be economically feasible. Right now, oil is the cheapest source.

Alan,
I admit you make a good point about the oil companies taking risk. They should be compensated for this - I have no problem with that on any level what so ever.

Where I have one of my problems is what someone else eluded to earlier: The Exxon down the road was selling gas at $3.00/gl this morning, this evening it's $3.30/gl. It's the same gas that was in the tank this morning that was delivered yesterday, but, a few hours later it's higher. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If you look at Exxonmobil online all the billions they make, look at the stock price over 6 months...pretty flat.

A year ago is was just slightly over the $48 mark... on 9/16 it closed at $63.70 and was up a $1.24 for the day. The end of June, it was $57.50. Is that what you call flat?? Three years ago it was $33. As a comparison, GE closed yesterday at $34.47 and a year ago it was $34.25 and 3 years ago, it was barely touching $25. Seems that only the oil stocks are moving and we all know the reason why.

Holy cow! Drop by the good 'old midwest. We generally enjoy lower prices than most of the country. However, I think our gas stations are making up for lost profit!! Only in the last day has prices dropped below $3 a gallon for regular unleaded. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif It sort of gets me when I have a buddy send a pic to my phone from downtown Sacramento and their gas prices are cheaper than in Evansville, IN!

I'm buying a moped!!
