What Happened to the gas crisis

I paid $2.89 this evening. I was told by my neighbor that crude went up $4.00 a barrel today... that means that the price at the pump should be higher by daylight. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Because people didn't Buck it when Katrina came... I bet we are in for the same garbage. It worked once for them... why not again. That's why I think we could all buy a moped or something and make the demand much lower so they can choke on their excess oil and have to lower their prices. When is the public going to say enough to these oil companies and Boycott them??? The worse I have seen on the prices is in Virginia... $5.95 a gallon for regular. Talk about Price Gouging!!!! Believe what you want but they are many people that do this including oil companies. Sorry to burst your bubble but we live in a Crooked world and unless we do something, they will continue to get rich and the rest of us will suffer in many ways. You also will see an increase in people frozen to death this winter because of the fuel prices and people on fixed incomes. YEP... a lot of people on FIXED incomes and they do not increase because of the oil companies deciding to increase their prices. We all may be on a FIXED income sooner or later. The prices is one way our government controls what people do. You see... on Labor Day the prices always increases. Yes that is demand... but oil companies know this so why not increase production a little over the year to compensate for the demand at that time. Because of GREED that's why. They want to line their pockets. If it was we as individuals... we plan for Labor Day and put back money for that Vacation and they know this. They capitalize on our driving rather than plan for it. Just a way to keep some people from going on trips or keep the traffic down. It all boils down on our government and oil companies controling us. Just my opinion and I'm sticking to it. We all should Boycott and stick to it until they have to do something like lower the oil prices. It will continue as long as we allow it to happen. Again... just my opinion!

Tired of playing their control games and paying High Gas Prices!!

Jim.... I hate to burst your bubble, but no matter how much we boycott the oil companies, there are plenty of people that won't. They need to get to work and products need to be delivered by trucks, trains, airplanes, etc. You might be able to turn the clock back 100 years and live on the land that you own farming with a few mules and get by, but for the most part, most people in the US are not inclined to turn back the hands of time. Also, keep in mind that we are competing on the world market for that oil and any time that there is an excess of supply that isn't needed in the US, the rest of the world will gladly take it off the hands of the oil company. Just be thankful that you have fuel to purchase. I can remember back in 1973 when there was no fuel to purchase and we waited in long lines just to get $5.00 worth of gasoline. I don't like what is happening any more than you or the rest of the people in the US, but I do realize that it is the price we pay for having a free society and economic system. There are people in the rest of the world that don't have the luxuries, freedoms, and availability of fuel like we have in the US. Be thankful for that while you are boycotting the oil companies. Junk.

Okay... my last post was removed. I may have gotten off topic some. I will just say if we don't stand up for what is right... things will not change.

If we continue doing the same thing.... how are things going to change?

We have to change what we are doing to get different results!

One question... Why were there places in Virginia at $5.95 per gallon for regular? Are you saying that wasn't Price Gouging? This is the problem I have with what is going on. And then when things settle and get back they never lower the price back to a realistic price. People do not Boycott and they think they can continue to leave them high because the public did not do anything about it.

I repeat what I said earlier.

We need to change what we are doing to make things change.

Doing the same thing and expecting changes for our benefit will NOT work. Time has proven that time and time again.

Late breaking news From the Massachusetts State House e mailed to me today......

( AG AIDE: SUBPOENAS ISSUES IN GAS PRICE INVESTIGATION

By Cyndi Roy

STATE HOUSE NEWS SERVICE

STATE HOUSE, BOSTON, SEPT. 19, 2005…Amid concern that gas stations are artificially inflating pump prices, Attorney General Thomas Reilly has issued subpoenas to state retailers and oil companies seeking information about their pricing practices and supply, a Reilly aide said Monday.

Since August 31, Reilly’s office has received more than 300 calls from consumers complaining about gas prices at certain stations, Assistant Attorney General Alice Moore told members of the Legislature’s Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities, and Energy Monday. Investigators from the office have visited 63 stations across the area confirming reports, she said.

"Hurricane Katrina certainly had a significant impact on gasoline supplies—the supply of oil from the gulf, the capacity to refine that oil, and the ability to move that oil across the country, while improving, remains, compromised," Moore said. "However, if there was profiteering in the supply or sale of gasoline in Massachusetts, we will do what we can to uncover it, and then take appropriate action against those responsible."

Officials from the Romney administration said Monday they have handed over to Reilly’s office an additional 44 cases they believe may constitute price gouging. The complaints were registered about an estimated 26 to 30 gas stations.

Consumer Affairs Director Beth Lindstrom said the administration received more than 500 consumer complaints about higher than normal gas prices over Labor Day weekend.

"Most of the complaints registered through our hotline and website were general frustration with higher than normal prices," she told the committee. "To date, it appears that the majority of the Commonwealth’s gasoline retailers raised prices based upon increases by their wholesalers did so reasonably. Questions remain, however, why wholesaler and supplier prices rose so quickly and dramatically."

Our governor of South Carolina said basically the same thing on the news. But so far we haven't heard anymore about the investigation. I think it was a political move for him and probably nothing will be done or someone who out weighed him in power swept it under the rug. Seems like these things happen more often than not.
