Most hydraulic filter have a bypass valve if the pressure builds up. Better dirty oil to than no oil. Imagine if a clogged filter disabled your steering or HST while in driving in a bad place.

On the Bransons that I have seen the main filter is a suction filter and they should have a check valve to prevent the pump suction from draining back into the sump. My return hydraulic filter is on the power beyond from the rear remotes to the 3 point.
And it doesn't even have a part number for the element in the parts breakdown.

Yes, the hydraulic filters on the Bransons is on the suction side of the pumps but the OEM one doesn't have a check valve.

I don't think it's a check valve either. For it to be a check valve, it would have to be located up top to actually block the flow on way and not on the bottom of the filter element.

I might pull that thing out one of these days but first, I have a trailer to convert to a dump trailer.

So I was greasing my 4815C a few weeks ago and found two new to me fittings. One on each side of the bell housing. They are not listed in the manuals and are tough to access. Not knowing what they were greasing, I decided to put about 4 pumps in each one. I did not run the tractor any until yesterday.

Since new, the throw out bearing has always made some noise when I would clutch the tractor. Well yesterday it was quiet all day. I wondered when I put grease in these new fittings if it was for the throw out bearing and I now believe they are. I don’t think they have ever had grease. They certainly are in the correct location to feed the throw out bearing.

If they do not feed the throw out bearing then I have no idea why the clutch was quiet yesterday. Lol

The geared models have those and no, those are not listed anywhere for some reason. It's for the clutch fork pivot shaft and doesn't take much grease at all. I don't think grease has anyway of reaching the throw out bearing though.

Also, they used straight fittings with is a complete bear to get the tip of the grease gun there. A 45 or 90 degree fitting would work much better. I really need to change mine.

That is good to know. I guess my hearing has gotten worse then because I could not get the throw out bearing noise yesterday. I purposely was listening for it and clutch multiple times trying to hear it. Oh well.

Wondering if it was just a little rattle coming for the dry shaft? Hard to say.

Many of the older tractors had a grease fiting an a hose that went to the throwout bearing holder;

I knew that and that is what I was thinking these fittings were feeding. But ptsg makes a good point. I guess I need to take the bottom cover off one day and look at the throw out bearing.
