What implement for creating furrows?

I've had people tell me, "if you till in a straight line, my potato rows will be straight."

In other words, they planted in the furrow that the tiller's gauge feet left.

It is a land pride 58" tiller. It left a distinctive furrow, but a guy could weld or bolt on a proper sized steel plate to the gauge feet to make the furrow wider/deeper.

This might not be the ideal situation; sometimes you can find old spring-tooth harrows sitting unused and pick theme up for scrap price, or just to get them out of somebody's yard. Set to maximum depth they creat pretty decent furrows in well-tilled soil.

Glad I read this thread ! I have been looking at bedders for my 2-3 acre vegetable and lavender crops. But they are pricey. I have some 8” tall I beam and big angle iron. I’m going to fab up a bedder for my 7ft tiller.

This is how people create furrows here for various types of vegetables. It may be a good solution for this case too.

I quoted the job in 2 parts, the ripping & tilling then separately the furrowing. I put in the cost of an ETA bedder as the quote for the furrowing. It looks like he's going for it. Won't make any money (will actually loose money given the operating cost of the tractor) on the furrowing part but will have a good impliment to use or resell later. The job as a whole will still make a couple bucks even buying the extra impliment. Month or 2 out at this point so will be looking for a cheaper used alternative on Craigslist or what not in the mean time.

Went over measurements with the client & talked him out of furrowing or bedding. Will just do the mowing & tilling for him. He's putting in his first lavender crop for his bees & isn't to clear on the requirements or optimal distances. He'll be putting things in without beds/furrows.

My Troy Bilt Horse had rear "wings". One on each side. After finished tilling - run back over the tilled land with the wings - nice raised bed.

I think I could make those Lavender furrows with either a middle buster or my single bottom moldboard plow behind my tractor.

It all depend upon what the customer wants/expects.
