Hi All,

I have a "neighbor" (about 5 miles away) that just installed an 11-12 ft fence with several "Normal" gates plus at least 3 of these gates. Before you say it's for exotic animals, e.g., feeding giraffes etc, I know for a fact it isn't because this fence is only on two sides. The other 2 sides are regular barbed wire. My understanding is that this guy has managed large cattle ranches in Texas before retiring out here. I've been around cattle most of my life and for the life of me, I can't figure it out - neither can several other ranchers around here either. If for some reason the picture doesn't come in clear enough, it sort of looks like a "Dutch door" but only the top half, the bottom is continuous fencing.

I would ask him myself but he doesn't take kindly to people dropping in.

Thanks in advance.

I would not call it a gate yet. Just a spot for a gate later on. Or it could be something for people to talk about. Like what in he## is that guy thinking?? He must be nuts.

The fence is complete, Nuts he is, I understand he spent over $200K on that fence - about 2,000 ft on each of the 2 sides ir less than a mile total.

Oh, and it does have a hinge on the left side, zoom in on the right side and you'll see a chain & lock keeping it closed.

Calamine, AR has a population of 87. That he doesn't take kindly to folks dropping by, tells me he moved to the wrong place in this world. Buy him a bottle of Calamine Lotion as a house warming present, and swing-on by and see him. Let us know what you find out. Me ? I lived in Mountain View for 8 years.

Only the top open? Is bottom portion welded to vertical posts? If top opens, it could be to allow deer to jump over to get through fence area, but keep smaller animals out. Jon

Calamine actually has a "full time" population of less than 40. He is actually in Grange. I'm pretty sure he doesn't own a zinc mine so he probably wouldn't appreciate the lotion. 🙃😉🙂

Yes, only the top opens, bottom is continuous fence - like he cut the top part out after the fence was up, not sure if welded. I like the idea of allowing deer to jump over. But I would have thought they would have been every 100 ft or so. These are spaced maybe 700-800 feet apart.
