I'd like to search for something but not sure what it is call... I hope you guys can help.. I'm looking for the "motor/ piston? used on a feller buncher.. the part that grips the tree before they cut it... I don't think it's a piston it's some sort of motor or something?? Thanks..

It looks to be hydraulic cylinder operated.

Your right JJ,, I finely found what i was looking for.. now I just need to find out more about them.. It was a hydraulic gear motor that I saw.. Need to check now and see if they are powerfull enough to run a grapple...

You want to use a gear motor to operate a grapple? A cylinder will be A LOT cheaper and easier to design.

kennyd,,, yepper more money but I'm waiting for my parts to come back from the machine shop.. I'm trying to design / build a duel action grapple,, two moving claws.. It might be easyer to use the motors than to try to get the pistons to articulate enough.. Not sure yet,,as soon as i get the parts I'll play with rods and pipe to see if i can make it do what I want.. The whole thing might be just a hair brain idea anyway..
