There are so few in the US they are a disaster. People sit confused waiting for the entire roundabout to clear of traffic. Or they make them so small the big semi trucks can not navigate them.
I've been through at least 10 of them everyday for the last week, all 45 mph two-lane, and never any problem. The Florida Keys are absolutely littered with them. Best way I know, to keep a big mass of traffic moving at multi-lane intersections on local roads.

Maybe just too much for you western-staters to handle? No issue on the east coast. :p

These are all in my hometown. It's not near all of them, but I think you get the picture.

Guess MO is backward, not always a bad thing. Then again it is rare for me to be on pavement, mostly gravel road on my travels.

There are a few maybe 100 miles from here, but I'm not sure my best handling car would be good enough to maintain 45 mph through them.

Most people probably go 10-15 mph, a larger vehicle less.

lol... yeah. Didn't mean to imply everyone was doing 45 mph *in* the round-about! That's the speed limit on the intersecting roads.

Many of these are larger, higher-speed roundabouts, but still probably only 25-30 mph'ish in the actual maneuver. The ones in town centers are smaller and slower.

This is a great video on roundabouts. I agree with most of it.

Being forced through dozens of them this week, on roads with which I have no familiarity, I’ll say that knowing which of the 4 to 10 exits to take can be a bit daunting, as your whizzing around the thing in heavy traffic. GPS via Waze is a lifesaver, there.

But worst case, you miss your turn-off, and just do the loop a second time. No harm.

They are lying when they say you never have to stop at rotaries (in the video). Most of the rotaries around here are one lane and if there is a car (or a whole bunch of cars) in the rotary, you have to stop and wait for them to clear, just like an intersection (unless you want to take a chance on getting hit).

I am happy for the people that like them, because they probably aren't going to stop building them anytime soon....

The worst is traffic lights. We have a crazy little 6-way intersection near my house, completely hemmed in by 250 year old buildings, that was only ever stop signs for four of the six legs of the wagon wheel. Always worked perfectly fine, until some idiot decided it was dangerous and had a traffic light installed.

Now, it’s backed up five to ten minutes in all directions, nearly all day everyday. Trouble is, with our prevalence of creeks and bridges, you pretty much need to go thru that intersection to get anywhere.

We have two rotaries nearby, and they both work great. Yeah, you often have to pause a few seconds on entry, but that beats a line of a half dozen cars at a stop sign, or a baker’s dozen waiting at a red light, every time.
