Which won't hold up, Flowmix or Trowel Patch?

I'd saw cut the area in front of the door and remove the blacktop. Then prep and pour in a concrete sloped pad that tapers down to just below the existing blacktop. Would not have to stick out too far into the blacktop area... just so it gave you the slope you want in front of the existing concrete.... Maybe 10 80pound redimix bags would do it if you want to go that route... [ about .6 sq'/bag ]

Ya know? Kinda forgot I have a roller on site,,,,it may not get easier than that.
Does it need a "primer" to stick to older asphalt?

I've a couple of patches I've done and best results were to thoroughly brush the dirt out of the crack I was trying to fill, heat the asphalt patch material, trowel it on.

To heat it I just dumped a bunch in a disposable aluminum roasting pan and put it on top of my electric stove until is was easier to "stir".

IF I had a propane torch I would have heated up the area I was going to patch also. That always provided a better bond when I was doing flat roofs.

Are you talking about roklin? It will out last the asphalt around it. I have never had a problem. I have done 100's of patches with it in much higher traffic areas then this.

Keep It Simple. First, in most cases you want to have the lip there to keep rain water out. This is very common and the right way to do things.

Since you do not want the lip because of forklifts catching on it, I would either cut out the pavement and pour concrete to create a smooth transition as long as it didn't allow water into the building. Or I would grind down the lip with a commercial grinder from the rental store. Both are simple jobs, but grinding is going to be faster and cheaper.

I would not add anything to the top of the pavement because I don't feel it will last very long. Especially with regular use of forklifts over it.

Eddie I think that Roklin stuff looks pretty serious. Thanks SALopez, that's the pro advice I was looking for! It's kind of funny that if I had simply googled "Asphalt loading dock repair" Roklin would have come up first.

Here's Roklin's instructions for "Asphalt loading dock repair."

Only certain grades of asphalt are made to handle heavy truck/forklift loading day in and day out, and that's only with the perfect subgrade. And I doubt your lot has any type of polymer modified liquid asphalt. This area will continue to rut and settle with continued heavy use. Removing the asphalt and pouring a concrete loading/access pad is the only way to actually fix this. Any cement or epoxy filler placed on the asphalt will crack and break in no time. Asphalt flexes like rubber when loaded, and concrete can't handle those tension forces. Especially, a 1/2" wedge.
