What kind of glue?

I rarely use glue's and I am so not "up" on what is
available now-a-days. I want to glue a light gauge piece
of sheet metal, steel, to the top of my Kubota 1133 ABS Canopy.
Maybe a round piece 12" in diameter. So I need to adhere
sheet metal to this canopy plastic and I am pretty sure
it is orange colored ABS.

I am looking for suggestions for a proper, long lasting glue...

It is for a place to set my magnetic amber beacon. I do not
want it solid, if I hit a limb I want to it fall and hang from
the wire before it breaks.

There are epoxy's formulated for all plastics check the box stores (usually in the paint sections)

you might consider pop rivets ?

If you use an adhesive...be sure to scratch both the plastic and the sheet metal with something like 60grit or larger..

if the ABS is apt to flex at all it could cause epoxy to break loose

an alternative to epoxy may be something like silicone or adhesive caulking...something that stays flexible would prevent breaking loose if the canopy flexes...
scratching the surfaces will also give better adhesion with the alternatives to epoxy...

The best thing for two such dissimilar materials would be something like 3M 5200. It is thick like caulk, and will fill gaps as it squeezes down. It sticks like crazy to anything it touches, including you. It takes a few days to fully cure, but once it does you will never be able to pull the two things apart. It will stay somewhat flexible. I think I saw it at Home Depot. You need only buy the small tube, not the big size.
Another good choice is Gorilla Glue. It is more like maple syrup going on, but quickly foams up to fill gaps. It's the same urethane based stuff as the expanding foam that comes in the cans, so will have the same properties when set; a little stiff and weaker where the gaps are. Again, a small amount will be plenty so get a very tiny container of it.

I was going to suggest Gorilla Glue also. Just my thoughts.

Try 3M VHB tape. Commonly know as "body side molding tape". Plus the benefit is if you do need to remove it just use a piece of fishing line or thin wire to cut through it.

I may consider a type of contact cement, many of the trim molding glues for cars, many are contact cement type,

Can you anchor the beacon by using a metal plate on the inside of the canopy so that the magnets hold through the plastic? This way you would also know when the beacon takes a hit (watch out for the falling plate though)

I would go with goo glue stays rubbery and is strong as heck, or as someone allready suggested rivets.

Thanx so much for the inputs.

Rivets will make a water breech, I thought of a piece of metal under
as well but my receiver is in the way and I need a more pernament
mount. Some of the suggestions look like winners for sure and I will
be looking into them.
