What kind of glue?

one would think the metal plate being glued to the top of the cannopy would block (most) of the uv ;)

I've used quite a bit of 3M 5200. I hate the stuff. It is almost impossible to get off after the mistake. :D

Then again, it may be just what you are looking for.

I second this. 5200 is great if you never, ever plan on changing anything. If you think it may have to come off at some point, then use 4200, which is similar in qualities but can be separated at a future date without shredding both parts.

3M 5200 is a marine adhesive
As a shipwright/fabricator I have used it many many times and IMO it is overkill to the extreme for this application...

5200 is expensive to begin with and it requires it's own removal agent that is equally expensive...

I would use plain old contact cement / 3M Weatherstripping, around here we call it "gorilla snot" . Spread on your canopy and beacon, let dry until not sticky, and set the beacon in place.

Is the magnet strong enough to hold the metal through the plastic? No glue required. Hold the plate on the underside of the canopy and put the light on the top.

John even if it is powerfull enough I do not want that
sudden "Surprise" even if it didn't hurt. It could be cause
for a momentary distraction then the sky will fall kinda deal...

I appreciate ALL the comments. 5200 is in my aim...

The 3M 5200 suggested above is a very tough and permanent solution, should work very well for your uses. The 3M 4200 is similar but easier to remove although both will bond and hold the beacon with out any problems. I use both for boat repairs but the 5200 has to be ground off to remove, that stuff is tough.
I have a tube of 4200 here and the product code is 06560 should be available at marine supply stores.

For this type of problem I resort to one of my favorites.
A quality caulking that is polyurethane based and similar to the adhesive used to install windshields.
The caulking brand is FLEXTRA, comes in some 20 colors and sticks to just about any clean surface. Never gets hard and brittle and is even paintable.
Because it remains flexible it is perfect for dissimilar products that will have different expansion rates with temperature changes.
OH, and it sells for (generally) less than $5.00 a tube.
