What kind of potatoes do you grow?

My taters are doing great and are about 16" tall now.

You don't want them tall. Spuds grow off the stems so you want to hill them up to the leaves to get yield. I planted in straw this year as an experiment.

Yes, 16" is after hilling them about 6" now. Total growth must be 2 feet now. I find you must hill them to be sure the spuds are below the surface. The hurricane hit and blew my sweet corn over though. I'm hoping they straighten up some. :thumbsup:

How long do potatoes generally take to sprout? Planted a couple of weeks ago through daytime warm temperatures, but not a sign of anything yet.

It depends somewhat on how deep you bury them.
I planted mine May 25 and they are just starting to poke up through. They were from last year’s crop and had some pretty good sprouts when I put them in the ground. The peas I planted the same night just came up today.
So far that is all that I have in the ground... I had planned to sterilize my pig manure before using it but may need to get by without it this year. I have plants which need to get into the ground.

Southern Wisconsin is about the same Latitude as we are. What gives? When did you last have frost?

Looks like rain again, skies dark. Good for the Barley the Farmers planted here three or so weeks ago.
