Would just like to know what octane gas (petrol) do you put in the tank.

Always 87 (lowest) unless I am running something that the manufacturer specifically calls for higher octane. My Simonini 2 stroke on my PPG rig, I run the highest I can find... and actually 100octane AV gas. I would usually just run standard pump premium, but avgas 100 has no smell. For a flying rig that packs up small enough to fit in the hatchback of a hatchback car.. no smell is a big bonus.

I think nearly all the gas stations around here have three "grades" of gasoline. I always use the one labelled 87 (lowest) myself. I'm not even real sure, but I think the other two are 89 and 91. And I just filled up a few minutes agon at Wal-Mart and the price has gone up to $2.059 (minus a 3 cent discount if you use their shopping card).
Here in St. Lucie County, Walmart (Murphy) and RaceTrack, the two cheapest, have jumped from $1.879 to $2.199 in the last 2 weeks (of course, less the $.03 Walmart discount if you use their card). That's a 32 cent jump (17%); how much longer can we go without overall price increases based on freight and transportation costs? I'm really starting to worry about the dam bursting and a flood of inflation. I think the only thing preventing is that everyone expects it, so everyone's buying consumer goods now before the price jumps, and that's keeping production high.

Here in Mississippi the stations have three grades: 87, 89, 91.
Growing up in Kansas (just a few years ago), they had: 87, 89, 93.
I'm not sure why they need a higher octane up there, but there must be some reason.
I just use regular 87 in all of my vehicles. Up to $1.99 today, for all who are curious /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.

From my understanding, the higher the octane rating, the motor is less susepable to detonation. This is because the higher ocatane fuels burn "slower" and has a lower flash point than the low octane fuel does.

Up until a couple of years ago, the Sunoco stations around here sold 86 octane for the same price as the other station's 87 octane. This fooled all of the people who shopped on price alone and were ignorant of octane ratings. They also sold 87 octane, but it was a couple of cents higher than their 86 octane price.

Typically 90% of the world here runs 87 octane in cars and trucks. Diesel is 45 octane
In my snowmobiles I've always run 93 octane (high grade) because of the jets and performance of the 2 stroke engines. Never had a problem.
