what on earth does electricity cost near you?

I moved a few miles south by the way so now I pay about $65 per month.... Very hard to belive compaired to $125 to 200 during non winter months. I will have to see what it cost this winter for electric but now I have natural gas heating.

I think our current rate is less than 4 cents per kilowatt right now. When we signed up it was 4.26. It used to be over 6 cents from our power company but voters voted to shop around for better rates through an "electric aggregation program". Some months we end up paying more for meter usage, customer fees and taxes than we do for the electricity. Our lowest bills are about $50 and highest during airconditioning season are usually less than $120. Low usage would be around 600 kwh and high about 2000 kwh. We're in about a 1000 sq. ft. manufactured house.

This is why I'm running a space heater right now after paying 4.69 per gal. for propane.

4 cents per KWH for electricity and $4.69 a gallon for propane. Great deal on electricity, more than double what the propane should cost. I guess it all evens out.

I pay a progressive rate for electric. Starts out at 19 per KWH for the first 500 then it drops to about 12 for the next 500 and then goes to 9 for any additional. This is due to being located in an extremely rural area. Seems to also give an incentive to using more electricity.

I just bought 800 gallons of propane for $1.60 a gallon.

First paragraph quotes a 1 billion dollar charge, in one month, above market value for electricity.

Fifth paragraph:

"Industry is circumventing power generation, delivery, debt and Global Adjustment charges by doubling self-generated diesel power from 5%-10%."

Food for thought. Also partly explains tighter diesel emission standards in certain areas.

Latest rates here under TOU:

Peak: 14.0 cents/kwh

Mid-peak: 11.4 c/kwh

Off-peak: 7.7 c/kwh

I should compare that Peak # (+ the 18 surcharges on the bill) against generator use - a Natgas fueled gen may actually be cheaper, and perhaps even gasoline too, these days.

Low power rates here, .0233 @ KWH. $8.80 month minimum charge. All electric home, except for my woodstove which I burn as supplemental heat all winter. Truth is the elect. rate is low enough that I don't need to burn the woodstove cept I enjoy the wood labor and peace of mind that if the power goes off, I can keep the house warm, the power rarely goes off in a storm here, and usually back on in an hour or two. Douglas County P.U.D. Wa. State. Columbia river hydro.

Wood is a nice a backup, but at those rates elec. heat is attractive.

I had an all-electic house years ago, and did appreciate the ease and accuracy of zone control with baseboard heat.

Edit - do not read the Comments below that article, if you mind seeing swear words.

They are starting to talk up a 4 or 5x differential in TOU rates, compared to the 1.8x now.

That way we freezing peasants are supposed to feel grateful, when they "only" jack it up to 3x the Off-Peak rate.

Here in Central Florida .12 a kilowatt hour. Which is the reason I've changed out the air conditioner to a seir (18) with in house zoning, gone to a variable speed pool pump and a propane tankless water heater. Every time a bulb burns out I now install LED. The net result has been a reduction from over $500 dollars a month during the peak months to just less than $300 a month.

Here in Shawnee I pay $.01894 per kw. Low end is $.01879. Two taxes at $.00016 and $.00056 per kw.
Power company is pushing for higher rates. Our state commissioner rarely approves rate increases without just cause.

I converted my house to total electric to get away from the high natural gas rates for heating. Install ground loop GEO thermal heat and air.
Cost almost nothing for cooling and very little for heat.
