For us BX owners ( I have a 1500) what RPMs do we need to reach max pump capacity (therefore max lift capacity? I have heard others who own B's say they reach it around 1800rpm. Is this correct. What rpms do I need to get max lift capacity?

Sorry workinallthetime, I have to respectfully disagree. Just because it is a diesel does not mean it has to be run at WOT all the time. That is a myth. The truth is that modern diesels ( ie: anything less than 50 years old) can be run at whatever speed is necessary to get the job done. Now, my dad's 1952 Caterpillar D4 dozer is designed to run at WOT, but WOT on that machine is 1300 rpms. Running at WOT will certainly not harm the engine and is the fastest way to get something done. However, getting the job done fast is not always the best way. Adjusting the engine rpms to the conditions is usually the most efficient. It just doesn't make sense to run the engine at WOT when doing a job that does not require maximum power. For mowing I agree that WOT is best even though it doesn't require a lot of power. It does require speed though, to get the needed tip speed on the blades. Bottom line is that today's diesels are variable speed engines and can be used that way with no ill effects.

YOOOOUUUU got it!

I have a 330 HP Cummins in a motorhome. MAx TORQUE is at 1400 RPM..MAX HP is at 2100 RPM. I run right at 1500-1600 RPM going down the highway at 70 MPH. Never need to downshift UNLESS Im approaching a long steep grade...then I'll slip it down into 5th gear and wind it up to right at 2100...and never slow down even the slightest. You use MAX HP when you NEED "max HP".

In my limited experience with my B7800 I have it set at 1500 to 1800 RPM's or so for clearing light snow with both my FEL down and back blade down. My tractor is always in 2nd gear for my snow work.

For heavy and/or deeper snow I need it set at 2000 RPM's. When I am moving or pushing back the mountains of heavy compacted snow I pile along my driveway I push it to 2200 RPM's. Without that kind of RPM I can't effectively curl and lift the bucket up and back away from the snow bank.

Having said all that once I added my new rear tire chains I found I could ease off the throttle by a few hundred RPM's and still acheive the same results in terms of working speed

I love my tractor!

he thats a real good comparison a 330 hp cummins to a less than 30 hp kubota YOOOOOOOOUUUU nailed that one. truth is a bx series makes it most torque at about 2400 to 2500 acording to the kubota propaganda sitting in front of me. but hey guess what a bx doesnt have a tach so i run it WOT. If i dont need full power to run FEL and BH then im not a WOT. You two took what i said way out left of field.

toolguy "That is a myth. The truth is that modern diesels ( ie: anything less than 50 years old) can be run at whatever speed is necessary to get the job done." Ive been a diesel tech for 12 years and have the highest certification that gm gives for techs, i know modern diesel engines i see what happens when one gets lugged around all day, i see what happens to transmission parts which lose line pressure due to failed parts. there is more to consider here than just engine rpm you have to take into consideration the fluid pressure needed to do the job.

as for the original post of where to run his rpm's consult your owners manual or get a brochure from the dealer to find the sweet spot.

thats my 2 cents

The white line indicates where you need to be for 540 PTO rpm. "Optimum" motor rpm is variable depending on the task at hand.

Sometimes it gets confusing. Abbreviations like that can be use to say not so courteous expressions on forums like: PITA and POS.
