What size of shear pin bolt??

Depending on application, some shear pins are not bolts, or grade 2 bolts can be too strong. With my B7100, I think at least one was a big cotter pin, but I can't remember where it fit.

Hard ( pun intended ) to get much softer than a soft bolt.. probably easier to just go down a size in fastener, or.. go to a specialty pin that is perhaps pre notched allowing it to shear easier.. or to a non steel softer fastener material.. like brass, aluminum, nylon.. etc

1/2 inch sounds to big for a shear bolt. Like a previous poster said not all shear pins are bolts. I would try to find an oem pin to make sure.

If it's a 1/2" hole it's got to take a half inch bolt or pin.. can't put something smaller in there and let it slop.. It will egg out the hole and shear on a shock load.

My 5' mower used a half inch bolt.. doesn't seem at all uncommon to me.

a 1/2'' soft bolt will shear . that's what came standard in my cutter. I buy mine from H.D. I keep several on hand as I have broken these 1/2'' bolts several times.
