Hi, I am getting ready to purchase a rotary mower for my B2150 - just not sure what size to get - a 4' or 5'? I understand the advantages of a 5' as it will go past the rear tire width and allow me to mow close to fences and mow beyond the tires. My concern is that I live where it is very hilly - 20-30 degree slope. The grass is not very thick and does not grow very fast here like other parts of the country so I am fairly confident that the tractor can pull a 5'er - I could be wrong though... . My concern is more related to safety and the ability to safely navigate hills with a gyroscope behind me.
I had a B2150 and to the best of my memory a 4 footer is what it calls for ,in fact I used one with mine when i had it and it worked like a Champ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Hi! I'm currently using a 4ft King Kutter behind my B2400 and don't think that I could pull a 5ft thru the type of pasture grass that I mow. The mowing that I've done has all been a real heavy,tall( above the hood in some places!) type of clover field type. I didn't have any problems, but the temperature guage did go up a ways when I was mowing the longer inclines and that was enough to convince me that I didn't need to go any larger. You said that the area you would be mowing is pretty light so you might get away with the 5ft but it would be nice if you could borrow one to try from somebody. Good Luck!!
(1) PTO HP: The B2150 HST's PTO hp could probably handle the 5' rotary mower in medium length grass. If you have the gear drive B2150, then you'll have even more PTO hp.
(2) Can the B2150 handle the weight of a 5' rotary mower? In my opinion, this is going to be your biggest concern. The 3-point lift should be able to handle the weight, but the front wheels will most likely come off the ground unless proper counter-balance is used. I use a 72" finish mower with my B2150 on fairly steep hills, but I keep the FEL on for counter-balance.
I would feel most comfortable recommending a 4' rotary mower, but you might can get by SAFELY with a "light-duty" (lighter-weight) 5' rotary mower.
