What tires to get on my first tractor?

Here's my thoughts ;

1) if you will NEVER use the tractor to cut lawn and will only minimally cross the lawn, then go R1.
2) if you will use the machine for loader work, light field work and will cross the lawn often - R4's. Also, if you road the machine r4's will last better.
3) If you will use the machine to cut the lawn, get the turf tires.

You can get tires "off the menu". The dealers will sell you the cheapest tires at the highest mark ups. They will almost always be low ply count. You can get high ply count Ag tires and many different tread patterns. You can also get radial or bias in R1 and R4.

R4's work great in my lawn, and non mud work with my L3130.
I should have gotten R1's for my L5030 instead of the R4's.
Like others have said, R4's are worthless in mud, and they don't hold sideways on a hillside when it's dry, you will slide.

Just my two cents...first how many of you really do work in the "Mud"? If things are really that muddy I wait a bit to let things dry out just a bit..R1 are better in the mud..but if you are doing FEL work..I have seen the R1's chunk bits of tread off...not so bad that I got a flat...but did tear up the tires in some rock/gravel....based upon what you are asking...Go R1 and play in the mud..

Mud happens even when it does not rain for 3 months and the ground "appears" dry on top, but it sucks you in.....

I thought you were going to show a mud picture, but you only have slightly soiled tires....

Worst I've been in mud left a mud line just under the FEL control valve and was level with the top of the rear wheel. It took a lot more effort to get out than it did to get in.
