I'll give you my opinion for what it's worth. I think you need an 18' trailer, 10,000# rating (tandem 5,000# axles), with brakes on both axles.

Bird,

Do you think 18' is long enough? I have a comparable setup (NH TC33D w/ FEL and 5' Bush Hog) and a 20' trailer. When I load it the FEL bucket touches the front of the trailer and the wheel on the back of the Bush Hog is just a few inches shy of the back of the trailer. Seems to me that an 18' trailer could leave something hanging off the back if the FEL and rotary mower were attached.

It sounds like either 7,000# or 10,000# would work for you. Simply add the weight of the trailer and the weight of your load to see if you're within the rated load limit or not. I'm guessing you will be. Beyond that all you need to consider is whether or not you want the heavier trailer.

I'd definitely go with tandem axle braking. Get as many tie downs as you can stand. You'll never have too many. A winch mount on the front is handy if you need to take your non-running tractor in for service. It happens. One other thing to consider is whether you want to deal with ramps all the time or want a tilt bed. I went with a tilt bed and love it. Give yourself the option to add sides if you want. You may never need it but it'll be nice knowing you can if you want.

Chris, I think an 18' trailer will do, but of course I was talking about what I'd consider for a minimum. A 20' trailer would certainly be even better,

Another thing to consider is the tow vehicle. There are not a lot of vehicles that will tow 10,000 pounds. While the trailer and load my not weigh 10K, it will certainlly approach that weight. You will want to leave yourself some margin. Braking is especially important. And you'll want a class IV anti-sway hitch.

And, NO.... you can not borrow my Excursion /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif.

I've towed my 26' (22' flooor) 7,000# trailer loaded with my Deere 4200, FEL, BH & 6' finish mower with my Chevy Tahoe 4x4 with no problems. I've also loaded a full size ext. cab 4x4 and dollied (front wheels up, back wheels down) a regular cab full size 4x4 and it pulled just fine. If I was going to do that regularly, I'd probably use a 2500 Suburban 4x4. Excursions just don't have the leg room. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I pull mine with a 20 foot 12,000 lb trailer. It is MUCH better pulling than my old 7,000 lb trailer I used to pull my B2150 with. I have about a foot to spare with the FEL, L3010 and bushhog on it. If you want to carry extra implements I would go larger.

What size is the Bush Hog. I think my 3710 FEL and 6' rotory mower is about 23 feet total. It is hard to find a 20' much less over 20' that is a bumper pull. I am trying not to go to a goose neck because some times I would like use my wifes 3/4 ton suburban instead of the truck when I am bringing out some extra helpers.

MDSteve,

I bought a 20' Falcon Superduty Utility trailer with 5500 lb axles and 4 brakes. I came up with the same dimensions as you with the bush hog and FEL on. This should work fine with only the tail wheel hanging off. This size trailer is as large as I have seen in a bumper pull. But should be readly available. I got mine for under $2,600 with a toolbox on the tounge.

Only problem I have found so far is that you cannot fit a 7' RFM on it. Too wide!!!!! Still have to figure that one out!

Will post pictures tonight.

Hope this helps.
