What is the best lubricant to use on the inside of the ignition? I have on hand.

Remington dry lube for firearms.
Silicone spray.
WD-40.
White lithium grease.

Opinions??

"Inside ignition"could mean different places and type ignitions. Be more specific.

Tractor ignition with accessory, glow plug and start. Inside the keyhole..

I don't know what remington dry lube is but if it is dry logically it would make less of a mess.

I have used silicone spray lube in my cars ignition switch.

My first choice would be powered graphite in a puffer tube.
Second, any type of dry lube in a spray can.

I think it's abrasive as well. They do use it but I'm thinking maybe the dry lube would be best so it doesn't get gummed up in the near future?

Of all the lubes I have I use WD40 the most on this type of application.

Graphite is a conductor not sure it is the best thing for an electrical switch ??

I thought we were talking about a keyed ignition switch, not an electrical switch. The graphite is puffed into the key slot. It is what the product was made for.

If/When I spray and ignition switch I use WD-40. Used it on my JD switch when it was starting to fail but ended up eventually replacing the switch. Have also used it on a Craftsman mower the dirt dabbers kept clogging up.

I'd get a can of contact cleaner, disconnect a battery cable and give it a squirt and cycle the switch several times. Blow out with air and repeat, then a shot of WD for corrosion inhibiting and moisture displacement.

The silicon spray works well for lubrication of mechanical parts. It also wont hurt electrical connections and is not flammable like WD 40.

X2 this. Contact spray is designed for switches, sockets, plugs.
The last photo "Houdini" I buy from a locksmith friend to lubricate locks.20181018_185950.jpeg20181018_190013.jpeg20181018_190031.jpeg20181018_190047.jpeg

I did spray it with contact cleaner to clean it. I sprayed a small amount of WD and it's working smoothly..

When lubricating, waterproofing, eliminating moisture in and around spark ignition systems, switches, electrical contacts, distributor caps, coil top, high tension wires, spark plug caps, use aerosol silicone spray. I use CRC brand available from Walmart. It displaces water, is not greasy, provides corrosion protection and is a dielectric. Do NOT use graphite powder, dry lube or other similar products.

I bought a spray can with a tube on it from an old time locksmith. I do not recall offhand the brand but it sure works well. I also use it on a combination padlock I have out in the weather.

My B-I-L is a locksmith and he always uses graphite. Looks like a lot of bias here. I've use both graphite and liquid lube but never use liquid after using graphite. Makes for a gummy mess.

Gary knows what he's talking about...follow this man's advice. Also, silicone spray lube will displace water in locks and mechanisms that might otherwise freeze in cold climates.

BTW, that's "silicone" Gary, not "silicon"...big difference...the former is a siloxane while the latter, silicon, is silica, better known as sand.
