It goes to 1 1/2" fitting here. Maybe it looked bigger because it's a little tractor.

You're probably right -- the size is blown up a good bit depending on how you view the picture. The Home Depot variety of conduit hub is offered in a 2" size as well as the 1 1/2" . No matter. The OP can tell what size it is for sure. I'm not 100% sure of conduit threaded fixtures use standard pipe threads and sizes or have their own set of sizes.

BY THE WAY, I have noticed in these TBN photo images that ONE mouse click gives a wide angle , not close up view while TWO mouse clicks yields a zoomed close-up view. I thin that is because One click gives an image auto fitted to your screen while TWO clicks gives the original image size allowed by the pixels -- typically much larger, more blown up.

IMO anything very tall (like an umbrella etc) would have caused a lot of stress on the thin sheet metal fender due to the leverage...It really could have been any number of things that a piece of threaded pipe/conduit could have been welded etc. to...

It COULD have been a dancing doll in a hula skirt but most likely it was an umbrella stand.

Meter Base Hubs and EMT conduit are standard pipe sizes and threads. They come in several sizes and offsets and are most commonly used for the riser between the meter base and weatherhead where the electric service drop lines tie in.

Why it's on a tractor fender is something only the previous owner would likely know.

OK, here is my guess.
He threaded a length of pipe to mount a strobe or hazard light.
You can even see a red wire and connector nearby.

Not an umbrella. Would be too much leverage on that small plate. The whole fender would be deformed with any movement of umbrella, that's why the are mounted with brackets on both side of seat.

One of those tall little flags used when tractor racing in the hills. Like dune buggies use.

Doesn't matter what it was; I'd be taking it off. Those bolts sticking up that way could be a wrist or elbow killer. Especially near that grab handle. Might as well be a knife blade.

Umbrella sounds right, there is zero chance the fenders are not strong enough for an umbrella. The tractor was built in 81ish, not garbage like today
