what were the engineers thinking, why no road gear

My Cub goes as fast as I'd like it to on the road. Seems faster than 14MPH! Then again, I only ever travel at most 1 mile down the road.

You are right about the lawyers setting the “NEW’ rules on how a tractor should work. I was told that the reason that my NH 24D Hydro does not have the same power available in reverse as in forward is due to safety. The problem it causes me is that I cannot back blade up a hill without the bypass valve stopping the tractor without being to move any further. I have asked my dealer to adjust this but he says he can’t. So now I have to meet with New Holland and ask and show them the concern. Do other tractors have the same safety issue? You might try to back into a wall or pull something very heavy and press the pedal down all the way in reverse and see if you can stall it out in low gear running at about 2200 RPM. I can’t on my 24D but I can going forward. I have found this to be very frustrating since I often back blade up a slope and the tractor runs out before the dirt is moved into position.

Guys lets get serious. High gears on tractors? C'mon maybe Ferrari will make a tractor for all the yuppies who want to go fast. You're also not suppose to be driving your tractor on the road too far from your property, at least that is the law here in MA. What's next, CD players and seats with massage and heat?

Carefull, there... there are lots of agricultural users on this board that road their tractors from field to field.

Probably like so many others have said...

Larger Ag tractors need it.
Smaller utility tractors don't. They probably aren't aimed at the same market or uses.

My IH2500b has a high range with top speed about 19MPH. The manual says to lock the brake pedals together whenever you are in high range, as at that speed, if you hit one of the brakes, it could spin, then tip over.

My little tractor doesn't have high range. But it doesn't need it. I trailer it from place to place. Only takes a few minutes to load it up and chain it down.

Again, I think it is a matter of different machines for different applications.

Actually those are already options. You can get a cd in any JD cab tractor. Not sure about the others. My 6415 came with cd player and an air ride seat. It also has defrost, ac, heat, etc., front and rear windshield wipers, front and rear window washers, blinkers, everything a car has. They even have 7 and 6 pin connectors for lights for you implements. All new implements come with lights, flashers, and turn signals as well.

And don't forget the cup holders... we just gotta have the cup holder, right? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yes. You actually get two of them in the 6415.

One for the pilot and one for the co-pilot?
(that tractor is just a wee bit larger than my PT425 /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif)

Umm yes there is actually a co-pilot seat.
