What would you do?

Well, I could be wrong on the legality, but I know that in my 20+ years of driving that I've done it more than once and never gotten a ticket, even when I've done so right in front of a cop. Like you, make sure it's safe and only move if you really have to and you can do so safely.

Edit: that should have been 40+ years of driving. Guess I was wishing to be 20 years younger :p

I can guarantee you the cop would have written you a ticket for 'failure to yield to emergency vehicle' if you had NOT moved out of the way.

NOT moving for an Emergency Vehicle, esp an Ambulance, could cause someone to die.

Well I did move and that ticket cost me $$'s and demerit points.

Once stopped at a red light I had an ambulance come up behind me with siren on an blowing horn so I ceded way but in doing so had to run the red light.
I checked every which way for traffic B4 doing so.
That cost me a fine and demerit points as a LEO was hiding around the corner.
You've mentioned this several times before and it obviously bothers you. Yet how would you have felt if you hadn't moved and the guy in the ambulance had died? Life isn't always fair and you hit this one bump in the road, while the cop was a ******** and probably always will be. At the end of the day, which of you is worse off? ;)

Well my reply is that in my opinion that ambulance was probably not occupied, just a crew wanting to end their shift on time.
Had their been a real emergency they had all the other side of the road that was clear of traffic to use.
This was not a high nor even well trafficked area.
The other lane was totally clear and they could simply gone around.
No. I'll keep my opinion on this.
Sure it sucks, but it is what it is.

Lately, instead of the wrong doers, a lot of guys doing the right thing ended up in jail.
I don't like saying this as many friends in Law Enforcement but there has been a profound attitude shift to what might be described as apathy in light of Defund the Police, Prosecutions of Law Enforcement, Not Prosecuting those Apprehended, etc.

Many I know are just counting the days to get out of Dodge...

With pensions at risk and legal proceedings that could take years there is a marked shift... I hear it from those in the trenches...

Really makes you wonder WHO will take the place of these warriors and once in place, what will happen when the excrement hits the fan again?

Police may or may not come when 911 called.

This was driven home the night of regional looting where the medical clinic was being ransacked along with the mall, auto dealers, Home Depot, Beauty Shops and Pharmacies...

I made repeated 911 calls as the looters were running past with medical equipment and supplies and was told I was on my own.

Several small businesses including a nearby bar owner barricaded themselves in and where heavily armed and it worked... but they are all owners.

This was my wake up call just how quicky things can go sideways and realizing the Calvary ain't a coming.

The Dodge dealership had 5 million in theft and damage that night.

What would you do is a question we hope never to be in.

In my case I barricaded best I could with furniture wedged against doors and flipped the main 1200 amp 480v breaker off and disabled the generator for lights out and it helped.

With that being part of the “new norm”, you have to wonder what attacks on public & private businesses are being planned with the typical civil rights, environmental, anti-police riot used as a distraction?
Its a difficult position for private business and a set back for legitimate protests, too!
We are seeing the closing of private businesses in hot spots, also a setback for people who just want to carry on their daily lives.
