What's a good 22 rifle under $200

Funny about .22s when the ammo costs more than the gun. But anyway I own a Browning lever (tube feed) that is a very accurate gun. I paid $100 new back in 1975. Dunno what they run for now. My FIL died last year and I have his old Marlin lever somewhere...I know he really liked it. Problem with levers of course is the scope interfering with the hammer operation (not optimal). I won a Ruger 10-22 years ago and gave it to him. He could never get it to shoot straight so he traded it for something else.

Thanks for the info guys. I bought the Savage Model 64 FXP today at Academy Sports for $140. Came with a Tasco scope. They mounted the scope and laser bore sighted it for me. Brought it home, loaded the magazine, set 2 pop cans full of water out about 30 yards and smoked them both the first time. This thing is dead on with the scope right out of the box. For the money you really cant go wrong. They had plenty of ammo too.

A while back I almost bought a Savage 64 but I got a model 93R17 instead. Sure it will be a great .22 rifle for you.

Savage makes an accurate gun, doesn't matter what caliber, I bought a model 25 (.223) in March, that puppy shoots within an inch at 200 yards, only took 6 rounds to get there. Neighbors got a .22 and a .22mag both accurate. Enjoy your new rifle.

Savage seems to have a bad rap (probably because of the price). I bought their bolt action in .270Win last year as a back-up deer rifle ($350). Took a long time to get on paper out of the box (I didn't have a bore-sighter handy) but once there, I was quite impressed. Consistent groups of <1" at 100 yards.

There is really no right or wrong rifle. I own and shoot several 22s my favorite being a Stevens single shot bolt action,,I cut 8" off this rifle for easier access ..I kill hogs, snakes, rabbits and squirrels. Second is my Remington pump , Ruger 10/22, S&W M&P OR.. I carry an American Heritage 22 with me daily as I trap and remove wild hogs ..
Pawn shops are a good place to buy used rifles and pistols .]

Between myself and about a dozen others that's the first time I've heard of that complaint, good to hear you got it shooting well.

Not a complaint at all! I bought it from somebody that won it at a banquet and didn't want it. I don't remember the model number but it was a new in box with scope model that they introduced a few years ago. It was probably shooting 6' right (hard to get that on paper even at 50 yds). But after I got it on paper and dialed in, I have to say that it is a tack driver. Nothing fancy and the feed is pretty sloppy but no complaints for a $350 gun. Like I said, I think their prices might lead people to equate it with quality. Mossberg has that problem with their model 500 pump shotgun but for me are the best point and shoot guns I own. I think I read that Stevens is getting back into the fray as well and most likely will get lumped into the same category. Like power tools, there is a definite "snob appeal" with guns. Fine with me...if something works at a fraction of the price, I'll take it.
