A friend of mine just bought a 2 year old 72" roll away box, Used off the Snap On truck. It is in perfect condition and came with a cover AND a 48" LED tv to close the deal. He paid 3200.00.

Snap-on boxes don't lose much value as long as they are in good condition. You can on line to their website and find the near identical box and see what they sell for. I have friends who use snap-on boxes and they generally get about 75% of new. Wouldn't surprise me if the value of that box was around 3k or more.

Good luck and I hope you get a good price.

I had a Mac about the same as that and I sold it for 2000.00 and I would not expect to see that box go for less.

No way that box is worth 2-3k.

A friend just bought a barely used, 1 year old MINT.. i mean mint, KRA2212 bottom with a KRA2208 top for $2000. And that included a cover and 50 mile delivery!!

That combo is about $3500 + tax or $3967 here. So there are definitely deals out there.

KRA2212APCM, Roll Cab, Heritage Standard, 12 Drawers, Royal Blue

Heres a KRA 5208 top and bottom for $1700 http://www.postad360.com/classified...roll-cab-and-bottom-1-700-winter-springs.html That was without even looking.

I checked on searchtempest and there are quite a few boxes for sale, some with tools in them and some without, they are everywhere from 500 to 5k. Judging by what people are claiming in the craigslist ads, they mostly seem to be going for no more than half of the original price paid for them. Seems to me like they lose value pretty quickly, but then stay at the same value for a long time.

I have the same box set-up - that lower cabinet was over $5k new, the top cab was close to $4k and that hang-on addition on the end was $1200 new over 20 years ago. Snap-On toolboxes also have a lifetime warranty like their tools - the drawer slides and gas springs for the top lid, locks etc. I've had all of mine replaced for free once before. Harbor Freight or Kobalt or Craftsman are nowheres close to the league the Snap-On boxes are in, there is no comparison in quality or weight capacity. When I last did an inventory of my tools inside my boxes about 15 years ago I had over $70k inside and have added to that since. There's the possibilty that guy has ALOT of money tied-up in that box !! If you can buy it "cheap" consider yourself extremely lucky.

That box pictured at the top is a krl. There is a huge difference between the krl and kra series in size, weight, and cost. In the past three years I've put about $20k into my box (krl7023), mostly snap-on, some Matco, and miscellaneous specialty tools. I very rarely pay retail for for the tools, usually only if I'm in a jam and need the tool. For the tools that I want, I buy used or on promotional sale. The way I look at is: yes it is very expensive, but I won't have to buy it again. However, I'm not counting on the tools and box being my retirement, so I'm aware that all of it is not worth to someone else what it is to me. And yes I turn wrenches professionally.

To answer the original question: Get back to us in a month when you find out what's inside the box. The box I have was only a quarter of the cost of the tools. Always remember, it's not the box that is doing the work, it's the tools stored inside.

I just checked snappy's site, the msrp has gone up $265 since I bought mine new in '09!

Is there any way to tell from the pic I posted whether this box is a KRA or KRL? I don't know much about snap on tools, all I know is that I would rather buy older used snap on tools than the brand new craftsman tools.

I will report back once I find out what's inside.

Yes i know there is a difference between a KRA and a KRL....

But in practice, at least here, a well used, 20 year old KRL would be about $750-1k.

I posted the info on the KRA's to indicate the depreciation. Both those boxes are pretty new. Both, were in excellent condition and both depreciated 50%+.

Using that math a 2-5 year old KRL combo that was 9-10K new + side cab at full retail, with a current KRL 1251 top and KRL722 would be $4500-5000 mint.

Several months ago, Snappy USA had the krl 722 on promo for $3000.

This box isnt mint, and 20 years old. The seller can feel free to ask whatever he wants. BUT anything over 1k for that combo is too much in MY opinion.

If you have one I'll buy it from you. The mac I sold was 8700.00 new.
