What\'s ailing my 4610?

I have a bota 4610 cab tractor with hydrostatic drive. I got my Kawaski Mule in a bit of a bind while ago in the woods and couldn't get it to climb out. So, I took the tractor over and hooked up chain to mule...started pulling and was halfway up the hill when it just stopped going forward. Now, there was no smell of anything and no sounds...just suddenly acted like it wouldn't move.
Engine is fine, no parking brake on, idles and rpm increases with throttle...but when i press down on the hydro pedal...either in forward or reverse...it just sits there.
I'm aware of how hydros act when climbing hills...you have to 'feather' the pedal some and let it catch up and then go on..it dies down rather easily when on steep incline. But this...it won't even move now.
The hill is steep, yes, but not anything that i havent' gone up before.
Anyone know what the deal is here?

thought i would show the grade of the hill....this is before i brought tractor over to pull it...steep, but not that bad. just lots of roots, branches, leaves, etc...an occasional rut.

Do you have any leaks? What about your fluid level?I think you need it somewhat full to make it move.Check this first and get back to us.All the fluid on a incline might make the fluid drain away from your pump. But I think it would come around in a few seconds.

This may sound dumb, but did it jump out of gear? I only ask, as this just happened to me the other day. I was going along fine, and then nothing. I must have hit the lever with my leg when I was sitting sideways and looking backwards. Slipped it back in gear and away I went. Did you try any other range or not?

no leaks..no fluids down...everything normal
And...how would it jump out of gear? It's a hydrostatic.
all there is is a pedal for forward and reverse.
and the low..medium and high lever is in LOW now.

Re: What\'s ailing my 4610?

I might suggest moving the low/med/high lever to another range and then back to low. Does the PTO spin if engaged? Fluid levels are a good question, too--do your other hyd devices (FEL, 3pt) work?

Can't offer any help here, but that doesn't look like too much grade for the tractor to handle. The solution to this one will be interesting.

The range lever is what I mean by gear. Maybe the linkage for the range lever has come apart somewhere. Let us know what you find.

Re: What\'s ailing my 4610?

Could you have picked up a stick or some foreign object in the linkage(undreneath) that could be obstructing the operation?

SmokyMtnMan:

One possibility, if your hydraulic fluid level was low, being on an incline may prevent oil from getting into the hydrastatic unit.

Do the aux hydraulics, bucket, etc work ?
