What's happened to Craigslist?

My daughter uses nextdoor.com a ton up in Portland Oregon. Real names, localized postings; she's been setting up a new household & gardens and has found a lot of stuff, both for sale and for free.
I'm starting to use it in the CA Gold Country; I like that it's localized ("neighborhoods") and real people. I still use CL from time to time but to be honest it's never been a gold mine - very hit & miss.

I signed up for nextdoor.com and immediately I started getting spam text messages.

It's on the left side of the web version under the distance you want to search, change from "Revelance" to "Newest" and it should sort by date.

Nope, dont have that option? Are you sure you arent thinking of craigslist?

My biggest issue with FB is that it is FB.

I finally clicked 'Prohibited' on a Craigslist ad that appears in every region - apparently nationwide - when I search on 'Yanmar'.

It's some guy between Houston/Austin selling an electric animal tranquilizer probe/prostate stimulator/whatever "not for use on humans!".

'Prohibited' makes it disappear off the lists I see.

Sorry if that contributes to shutting down his spam! I don't like that this is the only ad found in some regions, when I'm searching for something unrelated.

I hate dealers loading up posts in owners section, and I also hate people posting from out of town or out of state. If I wanted to shop a different location, I'd look in that areas Craigslist.

Yeah that is a big problem. Right now in my area, a title-only search for "excavator" will get 226 hits, and many are from 2 offending out-of-state dealers: Kitsap Kubota in WA, and Arizona Tractor. At least they are listed under "dealer".

Who is gonna buy from these guys sight-unseen, and have it shipped? They will NOT hold a machine while you travel there, or send a local inspector.

I just checked and market place gives me that option on my iPhone.

I am not on FB so I would not know, not that I have heard much good of it. I did join a gardeners club and they post on FB so I seem to be out of the know on what the monthly meetings are going to cover.

I got a free 3000 psi pressure washer two weekends ago off of nextdoor. It was simply hydrolocked and once I drained it off it is running like a champ. This next weekend I am set to pick up a free 48 inch brush hog that is supposed to be in operable condition. We will see on that one. Nextdoor seems to be more of a neighborhood news, alerts, ratings, recommendations and a few things for sale or free (I just want it gone mentality). I like it but it is very, very limited on items for sale since it is neighborhood based. I like that.

Your Nextdoor sounds pleasanter than mine in town. A neighbor told me she reads it occasionally and sees 99% of the posts are racist fear of the high school kids walking home. Be Very Afraid. I haven't looked into it further. I like my immediate neighbors; don't want to get to know those fearful ones.

As for Craigslist - posting or buying, it's always full of the unexpected!
