What's happened to Craigslist?

Why all the hate for Facebook but Craigslist is ok? They’re not much different politically in my book.

Your Nextdoor sounds pleasanter than mine in town. A neighbor told me she reads it occasionally and sees 99% of the posts are racist fear of the high school kids walking home. Be Very Afraid. I haven't looked into it further. I like my immediate neighbors; don't want to get to know those fearful ones.

As for Craigslist - posting or buying, it's always full of the unexpected!
Our Nextdoor probably has more lost/found dog and does anyone know a good contractor for.... posts than anything. Very useful.

I just checked and market place gives me that option on my iPhone.

I get NO way to sort if I am just browsing the garden section. And you can see how random the listing dates are. Frustrating.

But maybe I figured something out.....

I get the sort option IF and ONLY IF I "search" for something

I got a free 3000 psi pressure washer two weekends ago off of nextdoor. It was simply hydrolocked and once I drained it off it is running like a champ. This next weekend I am set to pick up a free 48 inch brush hog that is supposed to be in operable condition. We will see on that one. Nextdoor seems to be more of a neighborhood news, alerts, ratings, recommendations and a few things for sale or free (I just want it gone mentality). I like it but it is very, very limited on items for sale since it is neighborhood based. I like that.

I'd never heard of them before. Tried to check them out, but they require a street and email address before you can do anything. Deal killer.

I've only used CL a handful of times, but any dealings I've had were mostly straightforward.

I am not on FB so I would not know, not that I have heard much good of it. I did join a gardeners club and they post on FB so I seem to be out of the know on what the monthly meetings are going to cover.

I don't do FB either. Maybe 8-10 years ago I tried joining to see what it was all about, turned out you really couldn't see/do anything useful without giving up a lot of personal information. Sorry, not interested.

Our local snowmobile club seems to have transitioned to FB for most announcements, but their page is open to everyone...no need to be a member to view it.

Basically CL is an anonymous site that only requires login creds if you want to sell something or post on the forums etc...
It does not mine data from casual browsers and it does not have dozens and dozens of invasive data mining scripts running on its servers that infiltrate any device browsing it's pages like FB does...

.
It's a double edged sword. 75% of the insanity on C List happens because lunatics and scammers do it incognito while reaching out worldwide. If a person act's civil on the Neighborhood site, what do they have to fear?

Exactly! I've ignored Facebook and don't feel like I've missed anything.

But I suspect Gmail, which I do use, is nearly as bad for profiling you. The difference is Gmail profiling is used for marketing, not for sharing your profile data with other users who you may not want to know better.

I’ve seen more posts about peopl finding dogs on Nextdoor than anything else. I have never had that kind of luck finding dogs.
